As the summer transfer window opens for Premier League clubs, deals and exits will be finalized and announced.  But which players generated the most online interest over the last year?

The study by the sports betting community OLBG found that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is the most searched Premier League player, receiving over 143,000 monthly Google searches.

Kane is the only Spurs player to make the top 20. He is the most-searched player in cities such as London, Brighton, Portsmouth, and Southampton.

Erling Haaland, Manchester City’s striker, takes the second spot with over 138,000 monthly searches. He has the highest searches in Manchester, Sheffield, Blackburn, and Blackpool.

The most Googled Premier League 2023 players in UK revealed

  • Spurs’ Harry Kane is the most Googled Premier League player of 2023, receiving 143,028 monthly UK searches
  • Manchester City’s Erling Haaland is the second most Googled after racking up 138,323 monthly searches
  • Chelsea and Arsenal both have four players in the top 20, the most of any club

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez ranks third with over 115,000 monthly searches. He is the most searched in Wrexham, Lancaster, Bradford, and Belfast.

Jack Grealish, from Manchester City, places fourth and receives over 110,000 monthly searches. He topped searches in Birmingham, Durham, and Worcester.

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford takes fifth place after receiving over 87,000 monthly searches. He is the second-most searched player in Manchester, behind City’s Erling Haaland.

Harry Maguire, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount, and Gabriel Jesus make up the top ten.

Chelsea and Arsenal have four players each to rank among the 20 most searched Premier League players, the most out of any other club.

Manchester United and Liverpool have two players listed.

West Ham’s Declan Rice, Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Everton’s Dele Alli, and Nottingham Forest’s Jesse Lingard are the only players from their clubs to rank among the top 20.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson for OLBG said:

“The transfer window is an exciting time for football fans, as gossip and speculation about big money moves swirls around in newspapers and online. It’s fascinating to see Harry Kane ranks as the most Googled Premier League player. Even with the arrival of Erling Haaland at Man City, and their treble triumph, fans’ interest in Kane and his future has been sky high and remained one of the main talking points of the season.

However, there is not much difference in the number of monthly searches between him and Erling Haaland, and the data reveals an interesting north/south divide, with Kane’s search popularity highest in the South and Haaland in the North.”

The study was conducted by OLBG, The Sports Betting Community.
