The PDC’s World Series of Darts is a global series of competitive but non ranked events that take place annually. The current format involves 8 ‘PDC Stars’ vs an invited 8 players from the nation or region* in which the event is being held.
The event has been steadily grown from its beginnings, in 2013, as ad hoc invitational showcase/exhibition events. By 2015 there were enough of these events that a series finals could be added and the World Series of Darts became a more formalised tour in it’s own right.
The current 2023 iteration is generally acknowledged as both a event full of high class darts as well as highly successful shop window for the PDC’s model of elite darts and will host at least ten events across Europe, the Middle East and well as in North America and Oceania.
The dominant playing figure, perhaps due to the time period, has been Michael van Gerwen. The Dutchman won the first tournament of this series, in 2013 and who is now approaching 20 victories including 5 WSoD Finals (inc Seoptember 2023).
Events are regularly added, and sometimes dropped, as a showcase in a country or region where darts is seen as popular, surging or where it is beginning to be enjoyed. 2023 saw The Poland Darts Masters added to the roster and prove huge success.
Dutch, Bahrain, New York, Nordic and Poland Masters events have already been confirmed for 2024 as well as the Australian, New Zealand and Finals legs.
*Region is very loosley definedand can include Asian players in Bahrain event and Eastern European players in the Poland Masters
