Rafferty and Nijman Claim Development Crowns

Red Dragon Darts

Nathan Rafferty and Wessel Nijman were victorious on Saturday, in winning Development Tour Events 18 & 19 respectively, as the PDC’s Youth Tour weekend continued in Leicester.

Rafferty, the winner of nine previous Development Tour titles, went all the way once again in Event 18, as he reached the final firstly by recording victories against Dylan Van Lierop, James Beeton, Harrison Firmager, Charlie Stocks, Ben Davies, Luke Littler and Roman Benecky, to set up a clash with Cam Crabtree.

The final began with four straight holds of throw between the pair, before Rafferty broke Crabtree’s throw for the first time in Leg Five with a 15 darter to move up 3-2 ahead in a race to five.

The Northern Irishman went on to win two of the following three legs, both in 14 darts, to seal a 5-3 victory and pick up a tenth Development Tour title of his career and a first of 2023.

In Event 19, Wessel Nijman continued his impressive return to darts, as he reached the final firstly by recording victories against Danny Goddard, Nathan Potter, Owen Roelofs, Owen Bates, Dylan Quinn, Jurjen Van der Velde and James Beeton, to set up a clash with fellow compatriot, Gian Van Veen.

The final began with Nijman taking the opener in 17 darts, before Van Veen stormed in front, by rattling off three consecutive legs in a total of 46 darts as he looked to pick up a second title in three events, having been victorious at Friday’s Event 17.

Nijman went on to deny his fellow Dutchman, by winning four successive legs in 18,11,16 and 15 darts respectively to seal a 5-3 victory and pick up a third Development Tour victory of an impressive 2023 campaign thus far.

The PDC Winmau Development Tour weekend concludes on Sunday with Event 20 taking place in Leicester, as play commences from 10:00 BST, with all live scores and results to be viewed at tv.dartconnect.com PDC Winmau
