DOUBLE RECOGNITION FOR PDC AT SPORTS BUSINESS AWARDS

The PDC received a double boost with two Bronze awards in the 2023 Sports Business Awards, recognising the growth of the women’s game and the introduction of Bullseye Maths.

The annual Sports Business Awards celebrates the achievements of the teams behind the scenes who facilitate sporting excellence and endeavours.

The PDC were shortlisted in three categories at this year’s event, including in the Best Sports Event field to recognise the success of the 2022/23 World Darts Championship.

In addition, the PDC’s commitment to women’s darts was recognised with the Bronze award in the Women’s Sport Business Award – Governing Bodies & Teams.

The PDC Women’s Series expanded to 24 tournaments across 12 double-header weekends this year, whilst the second Betfred Women’s World Matchplay took place in Blackpool in July – with £265,000 in prize money invested into the women’s game in 2023.

Beau Greaves won the Women’s World Matchplay and topped the PDC Women’s Series Order of Merit this year, while Fallon Sherrock’s impact in recent years was recognised when she received an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours.

Meanwhile, Bullseye Maths – the numeracy scheme launched by the PDC in 2022 – received the Bronze award in the Best Sports Community or CSR Scheme – Other Sports category.

Top darts stars have taken part in Bullseye Maths sessions with Key Stage 2 pupils in schools around the UK since the scheme was launched in February 2022.

In addition, an online Bullseye Maths portal includes an interactive game, provided by GoDartsPro, and downloadable worksheets to allow all people interested in numeracy to take part in darts-based exercises.

Bullseye Maths has been developed by the PDC in association with Nottingham College’s Room 180 Academy, PR agency Soapbox London and numeracy charity Maths On Toast and is supported by GoDartsPro, Winmau and the Junior Darts Corporation.

The 2023 Sports Business Awards were presented at a gala event on November 10 at The Hurlingham Club in London.
