Beaton Back Into Battle

All Winmau Showdown on Final Day Before Christmas break.

Daryl Gurney will look to right the wrongs of last year at the Alexandra Palace, as the former World Championship Semi Finalist finally gets his campaign underway against 1996 Lakeside World Champion Steve Beaton on Day 9.

After a strong showing yesterday from compatriots Brendan Dolan and Mickey Mansell, Daryl will be raring to go having had a resurgent year on the PDC Circuit.
Superchin fell before Christmas after losing out to Alan Soutar at the 2023 World Championship but has since seen a huge resurgence in form having only failed to qualify for 2 of the 13 Euro Tours in 2023.

The Northern Irishman included an impressive run to the Semi Finals at the Austrian Darts Open, losing out to eventual winner Jonny Clayton who plays just before Daryl against Steve Lennon in North London.

Gurney also went on to reach the Quarter Finals at this year’s World Matchplay, beating Gary Anderson 11-4 with a 104.43 average, taking the opening 6 legs of the match without missing a double.

He faces Steve Beaton who has already won in this year’s World Championship, coming through a 3-1 winner against Development Tour Number 3 Wessel Nijman in the 1st Round. The Bronzed Adonis will hope to make it past the Second Round and is no stranger to knocking out the very best players when’s he’s on his game.

James Wade came into the 2020 World Championship as the 8th Seed having reached the Final of the 2019 European Championship but fell to a 4-2 defeat against the Winmau player in the Third Round.

Steve announced after his win over Nijman his plans to retire at the end of the 2024 darting season and will hope to keep his run at the Alexandra Palace going after Christmas with victory on Day 9.

The evening session will see another Northern Irishman in Josh Rock start his campaign against Challenge Tour Number 1 Berry van Peer, whilst reigning World Matchplay Champion Nathan Aspinall wraps up the 2nd Round against Ricky Evans.
