Vicky Pruim saved her best for last at the SPA in Bridlington, storming past Lorraine Hyde 5-1 on stage to lift the British Classic Women’s title with a 95 average, in a performance that included 7 x 140, an 11-darter and finishes of 95 and 96.
Hyde, the 2025 Women’s World Masters winner, did not go quietly. Her 88 average was a huge jump from the 72 she posted to beat Darts World columnist Natalie Gilbert in the semi-finals.
The Swede had already posted the best average of the quarter-finals, 86.34 in a 4-2 win over reigning WDF Women’s World Champion Deta Hedman.
It capped a weekend of pressure moments for the experinced arrowsmith. Pruim got the better of Eve Watson, the 2023 Women’s British Open champion, in a last-leg decider in the semi-finals.
Earlier in the weekend she also partnered Paige Pauling to victory over Hyde and Watson in the ladies’ pairs, so the singles final was as much a rematch as a first meeting.
At 52, the Belgian-born Swede’s season has already featured her first PDC Women’s tile in May, and the British Classic adds £750 and a second WDF title of the year after she lifted the Welsh Classic earlier in the term.
