talkSPORT’s coverage of the 2023/24 Paddy Power World Darts Championship was recognised at the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards earlier this week.
The SJA British Sports Journalism Awards celebrate excellence among the country’s sports writers, photographers, broadcasters and editors, as well as specialist sports magazines, news agencies and across all digital formats.
The gala awards ceremony took place at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on Monday March 25, with talkSPORT receiving a Bronze Award for their World Darts Championship coverage in the ‘Audio Live Event Coverage’ category.
“It has been a joy to work with the PDC for many years and to get the recognition from the SJA for the most recent event is extremely pleasing,” said Liam Fisher, Head of talkSPORT.
“Hopefully our exclusive coverage next time can go even further and take gold!”
BBC Radio 5 Live scooped the Silver Award for their coverage of the Grand National, with talkSPORT’s 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup broadcast claiming the top prize.
The 2023/24 World Darts Championship saw the sport’s flagship event broadcast on talkSPORT2 for a seventh consecutive year, as Luke Humphries denied Luke Littler in a remarkable final at Alexandra Palace.
Commentary on talkSPORT2 came from Ian Danter, Mark Wilson, Chris Murphy, Paul Nicholson and Chris Mason throughout the event, while player interviews were conducted by Sian Price, with production by Matt Gubbins.
The 2024/25 Paddy Power World Darts Championship will also be broadcast live on talkSPORT2 as part of an extended broadcast deal which was confirmed with the leading sports radio station in December.
The two-year deal will feature exclusive live commentary of the Paddy Power World Darts Championship and Betfred World Matchplay, alongside updates from other PDC televised events.
