Shane Hayward and Jim Long took the early lead on Thursday in ending Day One top of their respective groups, as they look to join Jeff Smith in Saturday’s finale at the MODUS Super Series.
Hayward, who last appeared at the Super Series back in March, made his return by taking the early lead in Group C, after winning three of his five matches and recording victories against Mareno Michels, Peter Hudson and Arne Spee, with his two defeats coming against Ciaran Teehan and Nick Fullwell, to sit on 6 points from a possible 10 thus far.
Ciaran Teehan and Mareno Michels also ended the day on 6 points each but sit 2nd and 3rd respectively behind Hayward due to legs won during the day as well as legs difference, whilst the remaining three players in Hudson, Fullwell and Spee sit 4th, 5th and 6th on 4 points each.
In Group B, Jim Long took the early lead, after completing a clean sweep with four wins from four, as he recorded victories against Chris Quantock, Justin Hood, Adam Mould and Adam Lipscombe, to sit on 8 points from a possible 8 thus far.
Elsewhere, Justin Hood ended the night in 2nd on 6 points, Adam Lipscombe in 3rd on 4 points, Chris Quantock in 4th on 2 points and Adam Mould bottom on 0 points, having suffered four straight defeats.
The MODUS Super Series continues on Friday with players continuing to battle out as they aim to join Jeff Smith in Saturday’s finale, with Hayward and Long taking the early lead thus far.
Group C will commence from 1pm BST and Group B will commence from 10pm BST. Play will be streamed live on the MODUS YouTube channel or via various bookmaker’ websites worldwide.
