Luke Humphries has strengthened his grip as favourite to be crowned BoyleSports World Grand Prix champion for the second year in a row after being backed down to 6/4 from 3/1.
Humphries started his title defence in Leicester on the back foot as Stephen Bunting reeled off five consecutive legs in his opener, but the world champion followed his epic comeback against the Liverpudlian with a more routine victory on Wednesday night over German Ricardo Pietreczko.
Humphries has already been made an odds-on 1/4 shot to reach the last four when he comes up against 2021 World Grand Prix champion Jonny Clayton in Friday’s quarter-finals.
The chances of Rob Cross earning a maiden title at the double-start event have also been well backed down to 6/1 from his pre-tournament price of 25/1 after he proceeded to the last eight at the expense of Martin Schindler.
The oddsmakers however rate Gary Anderson (4/1) as the main danger to Humphries’ hopes of a World Grand Prix double ahead of his second round clash tonight against Belgian Mike de Decker.
“Rob Cross is being picked out as the dark horse, but with Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen among the early casualties, punters are increasingly bullish that Luke Humphries is by far the man to beat.”
