Wessel Nijman made it a perfect double on Saturday, after winning both Winmau Development Tour Events 21 & 22, as the final weekend of the PDC’s Youth Tour season commenced at Robin Park Tennis Centre, Wigan.
Nijman, a recent Pro Tour event winner, reached the final of Event 21 firstly by recording victories against Jack Tarrant, Jon-Sebastian Wright, Charlie Large, Janek Hill, Henry Coates, Xanti Van den Bergh and Niko Springer, to set up a clash with Nathan Rafferty.
The finale saw the Dutchman dominate the entirety of the tie by rattling off five successive legs in 12,19,13,18 and 14 darts respectively to secure a 5-0 whitewash win and pick up a sixth Development Tour title of the year.
In Event 22, Nijman made it seven, as he dropped a mere 13 legs on route to the final by recording victories against Thomas Callaghan, Dylan Quinn, Wessel Tempelaars, Jaymie Hilton-Jones, Marvin Van Velzen, Dominik Gruellich and Jarno Bottenberg, to set up a clash again with Nathan Rafferty.
The second clash of the day between the pair was slightly closer than the first, as Rafferty kicked off the tie with an 18 dart hold of throw, before Nijman stormed in front by rattling off three successive legs in 15,14 and 13 darts respectively to move 3-1 ahead in a race to five.
The tie then saw four straight holds of throw between the pair, with Nijman sealing the victory in Leg Eight with a 14 darter and a 5-3 success to claim yet another Development Tour title and picking up a maximum £5,000 in prize money across both events during the day.
The PDC Winmau Development Tour season concludes on Sunday, with Events 23 & 24 taking place in Wigan, with play commencing at 10:30 BST, as all live scores and results can be viewed at tv.dartconnect.com.
The top two players on the 2024 Development Tour Order of Merit will win a Tour Card for 2025/26 and a place at the 2024/25 PDC World Darts Championship.
