Darius Labanauskas was victorious on Saturday as he was crowned the winner of Champions Week at the Modus Super Series, after defeating Tom Sykes in the final and picking himself up a record £20,000 in prize money.
There are many fans and students of the game who will be delighted to see the popular Lithuanian finally take home a significant title and the cheque to match.
Lucky D, who entered the finale having won Group B on Thursday and Friday, began the night by winning just one of his two group phase matches, as he firstly lost his opener to Tom Sykes, before defeating Derek Coulson to progress through to the Semi Finals.
At that stage, Labanauskas came up against Andreas Harrysson and in a tight affair, it was the Lithuanian who got the better of his Swedish opponent, as ‘Lucky D’ sealed a 4-3 victory to book his place in the final.
In the decider, Labanauskas came up against Tom Sykes for the second time on the night, who’d whitewashed David Davies in the last four, and this time, the Lithuanian star got his revenge against the Englishman, as he came out a 4-2 victor to pick up the Series Nine crown, £20,000 in prize money and join the roll of honour of Champions Week winners at the Super Series.
The Action returns to the Live Lounge on Monday with the first week of the ADC Global Championship, with the first of three days of Group A commencing, with a field including Sebastian Bialecki, Andy Boulton and Brian Raman.
Play will commence from 9:30am GMT and will be streamed live on the Modus YouTube channel or via various bookmaker’ websites worldwide.
