Shocks Aplenty in Sheldon Shield

Round one of the Sheldon Shield was on the fixture card for the Sheldon and District Winter League with possibly the biggest shocks being the 5-2 defeat suffered by third in the premier league Raven Arrows who lost to Old Salts Darts who are placed second in division one and another premier team, Banbury Club, who lost 6-1 to division one side Kingshurst Labour Club. There were 4-3 wins for second division sides Moseley Rugby Club and Raven who in turn took out their division one opponents Langley Flights and Trident Spears. In the all division two encounter Lyndon Old Boys got the better of Castle Bromwich WMC with a 4-3 result, the same scoreline by which Hunters Moon (division one) beat Langley Pints (division two), EBAHA (premier) defeated Sheldon Marlborough Ridge (division one) and Iron Horse Rebels (division one) who accounted for Sheldon Marlborough Flights (division two).

Game nine result in the South West Birmingham Clubs League brought about no changes in either division one or division two. A 6-2 home win over third in the table Longbridge United keeps Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’ top of division one with fourteen points, two more than second placed Northfield Darts Club after they suffered a 6-2 defeat playing away against fourth in the division Stirchley United, Longbridge are a further two points adrift.

Top individual highlight for division one went to A.Faulkner (Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’) who had breaks of 160 and 120.

In division two Quarry Club lead the way, their convincing 7-1 win at Bartley Green FC taking their points tally to fifteen and giving them a lead of four over their nearest rivals Perfection who also won 7-1 away to Moseley All Services Club. Third in the division Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club had a bye this week, they have nine points with a game in hand on the two teams above them.

G.Corbett (Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’) had a break of 160, recorded an eight darts leg and had top scores of 127,140 and 103.

The latest fixtures in the Camp Hill League brought together the league’s top and bottom teams with leaders Wakefield Warriors returning from Sedgemere Devils with a 6-1 result to keep them top of the table with twenty-two points from their twelve games. Second placed Erdington Nomads have played one game fewer than the Warriors, their narrow 4-3 win over fourth in the league Cotterills Lane EBAHA Club keeping them within two points of the leaders. Roost Bosh are third in the table, their 5-2 win over Clumsy Swan leaving them still six points off the top.

After the opening five games of the new season there are three teams at the top of the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League with a perfect ten points from their five games. Allen’s Bar and Cottage Spring are joint leaders with the same average as well as points and in their most recent fixtures Allen’s won 6-1 at home against Waggon and Horses while Cottage Spring were 5-2 winners at Ivy Bush. Vine ‘A’ make up the top three, they had a 6-1 home win over King Arthur leaving them two legs of average short of the top two teams. Fourth placed Sandwell (formerly Coach and horses) won their home game against Sow and Pigs 5-2 to keep within two points of the top three teams.

The Netherton Thursday Night 501 League has reached the midway point of its season and with a 7-2 win away to bottom of the table Netherton Conservative Club, Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ made it fifteen wins from their fifteen games. Despite their fine record the Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ only have a three points, one win, lead over second placed Old Liberal Club who in their final game of the first half won 8-1 away to Hill and Cakemore Ex Serviceman’s Club. After the top two teams there is a gap to third and fourth placed British Oak and Bulls Head who are both on thirty-six points, British Oak winning 8-1 at home against Cottage Spring and Bulls Head having the same result at Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘B’.

At the other end of the table there are three teams, Rose and Crown, Mount Pleasant and Netherton Conservative Club, all on six points, Mount Pleasant having played fourteen games and having one in hand.

 There were ten maximums scored this week with two each for D.Richmond (Mount Pleasant) and G.Moreton (Old Liberal Club), while J.Skeldon (Netherton Sports and Social Club), D.Edwards (British Oak), D.Ferney (Spring Meadow Pub), B.Young (Bulls Head), R.Lawley (Netherton Conservative Club) and P.Tonks (Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’) all hit one. E.Kiteley (British Oak) and M.Fellows (Cottage Spring) both chalked up a 160 break.

The Silver End Sunday Morning League staged the final of their Doubles Knockout and taking the title were the Church Tavern pairing of  A.Whyte and D.Appleby who defeated S.Gough and. C.Hadlington in the final.

There was something of a shock for leaders of the Brierley Hill Monday Night League Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ when for only the third time in thirty-four games they lost. Playing away against third in the league Old Bush the Ex Serviceman’s suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat, but despite this they remain top of the table with sixty-two points, eight more than the chasing pack of three team’s Bridge, Maverick and Old Bush. Bridge won 6-3 at High Acres ‘A’ while Maverick had a more comfortable 8-1 success at Brickmakers Arms. Both Bridge and Old Bush have played one game fewer than Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ and Maverick.

Old Liberal Club ‘A’ finished the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League season in style when they handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their visitors Wheatsheaf to clinch the title with fifty-six points. Runners-up Swan ended their season with a bye, two points short of the champions but eight to the good on third and fourth placed Hollybush and Bird in Hand ‘E’, Hollybush checking out with a 6-1 home win over Old Liberal Club ‘B’ while Bird in Hand ‘E’, like the champions won 7-0 at home against Mount Pleasant.

Netherton Conservative Club took the wooden spoon wining just one of their thirty games.

Week seven in the Rowley Monday Night League and leaders Wonder are now the only team in the league able to boast a 100% win record as in their latest fixture they beat the only other undefeated team and reigning champions Bell 5-4 to open up a two points lead over their opponents and also third placed Tividale FC who made it six wins from their seven games when they won 7-2 at Ex Serviceman’s. After the top three there are three teams all on ten points, Gate Hangs Well, Rowley Labour Club and Snooks.

Nineteen teams began the new season in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League and after only seven games just two remain unbeaten, leaders Ten Arches ‘A’ who won their latest fixture away at Queens Head 7-0 and third in the league Old Liberal Club who also won 7-0 at home against Mount Pleasant in what was their sixth game. Gornal British Legion are currently second, two points behind the leaders after winning 5-2 at Glasscutters ‘A’. Fourth placed Bird in Hand, Like the British Legion and Old Liberal are on twelve points, they had a close 4-3 win at Gigmill.

Evonne Taylor continues to lead the West Midlands Ladies Super League her latest 3-0 win over Kat McLean making it fourteen straight wins while for her opponent McLean, it was her first defeat in ten games and drops one place in the table to fourth with 36 points, Taylor on 56. Second placed Gemma Barrett lost ground in the title race as after winning 3-1 against Jodie Rowlands she then lost 3-0 to Claire Hobbs to leave her on 50 points from 15 games. Tara Simmons-Fullwood moves up one place to third on 39 points from 13 games after adding her latest 3-0 win against Jacqui Simmons.

5-2 wins against Shane Sheridan and Ian Townsend were not enough for Jason Lowe to hold on to pole position in the Amblecote RBL Premier League as he dropped to second place with 103 points from sixteen games. Cayden Smith took his number of games up to sixteen as after losing 4-3 to Tom Bissell he then beat Jon Underhill 7-0 and Connor Whitehouse 5-2 to take his points to 106. Third placed Gavin Smith had 6-1 wins over Ryan Hardman and Craig Lowin, but from the same number of games trails leader Cayden Smith by sixteen points.

Scott Baker maintains his place top of division one in the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League after adding an 8-0- win over Andrew Jervis to his account to give him a total of 65 points from eight games and a lead of six over Justin Evans who holds on to second place with a 6-2 win against Andy Matthews.

Michael Smith top’s division two with 71 points from nine games and has a lead of five points over second placed Reece Cook Lucas who has only played eight games.  

Olly Garratt is way out in front in division three despite being held to a 4-4 draw by Michele Pritchard. Second placed Dave Akers has a game in hand on Garratt but is seventeen points behind him as is third placed Gareth Walsh who has played the same nine games as Garratt.

Congratulations to Junction ‘B’ who have won both the singles and doubles leagues in the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League. They ended their campaign with a 4-3 defeat at Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’ in the singles which saw Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’ finish joint second with Hotshots who are level on points and average after they won their last game 6-1 against New Gate Inn ‘B’, Junction ‘B’ finishing with 64 points while the two joint second teams had 58 points.

Junction ‘B’ won their final doubles game 3-0 against Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’ to give them a total of 60 points, two more than runners-up Hotshots whose similar 3-0 win over New Gate Inn ‘B’ saw them end up with 58 points.
