England and Ireland Lead International Pairs Groups

Mervyn King & Steve West and Shane McGuirk & John O’Shea (Ireland) took the early lead on Thursday in ending Day One of their respective groups, top, as they look to join Scott Campbell & John Henderson (Scotland) in Saturday’s International Pairs finale at the Modus Super Series. 

King & West, who entered Group C having finished 4th in Group A earlier in the week, took the early lead after winning four of their five matches, as they recorded victories against Jacques Labre/Nicolas Thuillier (France), Sebastian Steyer & Lukasz Waclawski (Poland), Craig Galliano & Justin Hewitt (Gibraltar) and Neil Duff & Richard McKee (Northern Ireland), with their only defeat coming against Brian Raman & Xanti Van den Bergh (Belgium), to sit on 8 points from a possible 10 thus far.

Elsewhere, Duff & McKee ended the day in 2nd on 6 points, whilst the remaining four pairs all sit on 4 points each, with Galliano/Hewitt leading the way in 3rd due to a higher leg difference over their three nation competitors.  

In Group B, McGuirk & O’Shea took the early lead after winning three of their four matches on Thursday Evening, as they recorded victories against Jimmy Van Schie & Danny Van Trijp (Netherlands), Marcel Althaus & David Schlichting (Germany) and Manpreet Kalsi & Peter Wachiuri (Kenya), with their only defeat coming against Richie Burnett & Kurt Parry (Wales), to sit on 6 points from a possible 8 thus far.  

Elsewhere, three pairings in Van Schie & Van Trijp, Althaus & Schlichting and Burnett & Parry ended the evening 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively on 4 points each, whilst Kalsi & Wachiuri sit bottom on 2 points.  

The Modus Super Series continues on Friday with players continuing to battle out as they aim to join Campbell & Henderson (Scotland) in Saturday’s International Pairs finale, with King & West and McGuirk & O’Shea taking the early lead thus far. Group C will commence from 1pm BST and Group B will commence from 10pm BST. Play will be streamed on the MODUS Super Series YouTube channel, Pluto TV or via various bookmaker’ websites worldwide.
