Luke Humphries: Playing It Cool (3)

Diamond Draws Competitions

What a whirlwind couple of months, and the last few months of the year are quickly in sight!

I was naturally disappointed to be defeated in the final of the World Grand Prix, but I was pleased to make a third final in a row in Leicester. There seems to be something about playing there that I like, and my starting doubling was particularly strong throughout the week so there were plenty of positives to take.

My route to the final was a tough one too, and starting with Nathan Aspinall is always a tricky opener. Krysztof Ratajski and Cameron Menzies pushed me, and Danny (Noppert) was so hard to shake off, he just never gives in!

The final against Luke was a lot closer than the scoreline suggested. With the first four sets going to a deciding leg, it could have gone either way, but he was a worthy winner in the end, and I’ll come back stronger from the experience. My little boy Rowan also turned three during the Grand Prix. He’s growing up so fast!

It’s a really busy end to the year as usual, and I’ll be doing everything I can to prepare the right way for all of the tournaments coming up.

I’ve managed to do enough to be at the Players Championship Finals in Minehead, and I’ll look forward to defending my title there.

The Pro Tour season hasn’t been easy, but I’ve tried to manage my schedule, and it’s worked in the end. It’s always an interesting tournament with the big names scattered all around! The Grand Slam is also soon on the calendar, and I’ll be aiming to go all the way in Wolverhampton.

With £1 million on offer at the World Championship, it’s something that’s in the back of every player’s mind, and it’s set to be one of the best Worlds we’ve ever seen.

Bring it on!

N.B. My limited-edition Red Dragon darts and shirt have been released, and I’m really pleased with the way they came out. Red Dragon are so good at what they do, and the designs of both items are incredible. You can grab limited signed versions of each on the dartsworldstore.com website.
