Battle For Premier League Darts Play Offs To Continue in Leeds

Diamond Draws Competitions

With just three weeks remaining on the road to the O2, this season’s Premier League Darts appears to be heading towards a dramatic climax.

For most of the players, only a trio of nights now stand between a shot at the ultimate prize in London or elimination from the tournament altogether.

As far as World Champion Luke Littler and Jonny Clayton are concerned, they can relax. Their play-off places are already secured. Mathematically, Josh Rock and Stephen Bunting would each need to win all three remaining nights and have all their prayers emphatically answered.

Realistically, though, the battle for the remaining two qualification berths is intensifying rapidly. With four protagonists still scrapping for those spots, a couple are ultimately going to fall short.

That brings us neatly to the opening match in Leeds. A nightly victory in West Yorkshire for Gerwyn Price would likely go a very long way towards getting the job done. First, however, he must get past his World Cup partner Clayton, and he certainly cannot expect any favours from his fellow Welshman. That said, Gezzy’s head-to-head record against The Ferret is favourable.

If multiple-time Premier League champion Michael van Gerwen harbours hopes of adding another one of these crowns to his collection, victory in his quarter-final against Littler feels absolutely vital. Meanwhile, The Nuke will be desperate to arrive at the O2 exactly where he is right now – sitting top of the table.

Luke Humphries, PDC, Premier League, 2026, Champion, 02 Arena, London

Reigning champion Luke Humphries who resides in sixth place still has plenty of work to do. Although, he is only a couple of points adrift of making the cut. Statistically, though, facing Rock in his opening encounter represents the kindest draw available.

Rocky of late has demonstrated his genuine quality on Thursday nights and shown that a stronger start to the campaign could easily have left him firmly in the qualification mix. Now, his objective is to avoid finishing bottom of the pile. Victory over Cool Hand would certainly aid that mission, though it would deal a huge blow to Humphries’ own play-off aspirations.

The final quarter-final between Gian van Veen and Bunting feels like a must-win encounter for both men. Should The Bullet lose, it is probably curtains for his campaign. Defeat for the Dutchman would not leave him mathematically out of contention, but his route into the top four would become increasingly treacherous.

After Thursday night, only Birmingham and Sheffield remain as league-phase stopovers. Can Humphries – an avid Leeds United supporter – use the backing of the home crowd to propel himself towards victory? After all, he has triumphed on his last two visits there.

With none of the players currently occupying the play-off positions set to meet in the quarter-finals, it could make for fascinating viewing later in the evening.
