Modern darts is heavily statistics-based these days. While players hitting the most maximums or producing the superior averages and doubling percentages guarantees absolutely nothing, it usually provides a fairly reliable indication.
After all, how often do we see players dominate the statistical columns only to still lose the match? A perfect recent example came at the Austrian Darts Open, where Dirk van Duijvenbode was the only player to register a ton-plus average in the opening round – yet still crashed out to Madars Razma, who, in fairness, was not exactly far behind him statistically either.

So, given everything that has unfolded across the Players Championship circuit during the opening four and a half months of the season, it is still fascinating to see who currently tops the major statistical categories.

There you have it. Thrilling stuff, eh?

It comes as absolutely no surprise to see Wessel Nijman featuring prominently across so many of the charts – after all, he has already hoovered up five titles this season.
Special mention must also go to Kevin Doets, who could very well become the first player to smash through the 200-maximum barrier on the floor circuit this year.
And credit should also be directed towards Jack Aldridge who, despite only featuring in two events as a Challenge Tour call-up, demonstrated he can score as heavily as almost anyone. The Englishman fired in five 180s during his opening appearance in Hildesheim last month before casually following it up with another ten the following day.

As for Joe Cullen, goodness only knows what he consumed for breakfast that morning in Leicester, because his staggering haul of 37 maximums that afternoon comfortably eclipses every other tally recorded this season.
In fact, nobody else apart from The Rockstar has managed to hit more than 30 in a single Players Championship event all year.So there you have it.
Utterly fascinating to some people, I am sure.
