Zhan Bags A Pair In Wuhan

The latest China ProTour darts weekend saw Qingyu Zhan claim a pair of titles in Wuhan to edge closer to top spot last weekend.

Events 9-12 of the premier circuit in China took place across Saturday July 18 and Sunday July 19, with Zhan scooping two titles to cap off a successful weekend.

Zhan – who made his World Cup of Darts debut for China in June – stormed to the Event Nine title, defeating Lihao Wen in a last-leg decider.

The 28-year-old produced a dramatic comeback in his opening match against Zicheng Xu, recovering from 3-0 down to win 4-3 after emerging from a tense deciding-leg shootout.

Zhan retained this momentum in the following matches, conceding just three legs in reaching the final, where he produced a fantastic comeback against Wen from 4-2 down to triumph 5-4 and win.

Event 11 success followed the next day for Zhan, thrashing Zhuolun Luo 5-1 in the showpiece.

The World Cup star ceded a sole leg in reaching the quarter-finals, before battling through a last-leg decider against Kehua Wang to reach the last four.

Zhan defeated Lizhou Li 5-3 there to reach his third consecutive final, before downing Luo to claim a second title of the weekend.

Fascinatingly, it was Wen who defeated Zhan in the Event Ten final to claim glory, enacting revenge for his Event Nine loss in the final earlier on Saturday.

The two-time World Cup of Darts star crept through two last-leg deciders against Yongbo Pan and Zhiwei Lin in reaching the semi-finals, which also included a remarkable comeback from 3-0 down against Pan in his opening fixture.

Wen then dispatched Tong Xu to set up a rematch against Zhan, where he cruised to victory, thrashing his nemesis 5-1 to claim Event Ten.

In Event 12, Xicheng Han claimed a first China ProTour title of the year, defeating Xu 5-2 thanks to a dominant performance in the final.

Han recorded two whitewash wins in his opening three matches to reach the quarter-finals, where he downed Chao Geng 4-2 to reach the semi-finals.

There, Han accounted for Event Ten winner Wen 5-1, before brushing aside Xu in similarly imperious fashion to breeze to the title.

Despite not reaching beyond the quarter-finals across the four events in Wuhan, Xiaocheng Zong remains on top of the rankings, although Zhen now trails in second by under $400 after a fantastic weekend at the oche.

The next instalment of the China ProTour will take place from August 22-23, with Events 13-16 set to take place.
