Can Jose Tame The Beast?

Jose De Sousa stepped up his debut campaign at the MODUS Super Series darts yesterday as Andy Baetens maintained his position at the top of the table. The Belgian retains the lead, on leg difference, as three players ended on the same points total.

Baetens, who entered Tuesday’s play on 8 points from the opening day of Group A, won three matches from five to remain at the top of the table, as he recorded victories against Killian Heffernan, Dylan Slevin and Arne Spee, with his two defeats coming against Paul Krohne and Jose De Sousa, to sit on 14 points from a possible 20 thus far.

Portuguese star De Sousa settled into his debut week with a string of strong wins and impressive performances on his second day. Jose won his first four games without dropping more than two legs. Only a final game reversal to Dylan Slevin prevented The Special One from topping the table. His 4-1 defeat of early leader Baetens opened up the group and ensured a dramatic final day, of Group A, as 4 players will feel they are still in the hunt for the first qualifying place.

De Sousa and Paul Krohne also ended the day on 14 points each but sit 2^nd and 3^rd respectively behind Baetens on leg difference, whilst Dylan Slevin sits in 4^th on 10 points, Killian Heffernan in 5^th on 6 points and Arne Spee bottom on 2 points.

The Modus Super Series continues on Wednesday with the six players returning on the final day of Group A, hoping to boost their chances of securing a place in Saturday’s Finale, with Baetens leading the way thus far. Players who finish in places 2-6 will be split into two groups for Thursday and Friday’s play with Afternoon and Evening sessions taking place on both days, as well as new players entering the fray.
