The second day of play at Winmau Championship South saw another double winner, and this time Deta Hedman took home the two WADC titles on offer, as the legendary WDF World Champion scooped up Events Seven and Eight at Bradmoor Farm.
It was a mediocre day one by Hedman’s standards, but she made amends on Sunday, firstly overcoming Fallon Sherrock 5-3 in the final of Event Seven in Aylesbury.
Hedman dropped just one leg in making the quarter finals, after defeating Gracie Ferridge, Donna Buckley and Vicky Pruim, and a 5-1 win over Steph Clarke advanced her to the last four, where an 89.46 average secured a 5-0 win over Event Six finalist Eve Watson.
Sherrock also had a tricky day one, and blasted her way through the field in this event, whitewashing Macy Gibbons, Debbie Dexter and then Rebecca Rose, the latter with an average north of 93, and at one point well over 105. ‘The Queen of the Palace’ would then need an average of over 80 to make the final, a 5-2 scoreline confirming a win over Trina Gulliver.
Consecutive finishes of 80 and 58 saw Deta into a handy 4-1 lead, and although Sherrock battled to reduce the arrears, finishes of 104 and 88 making it 4-3, Hedman found double five to take the title and the £500 winners’ cheque.
Hedman swiftly made it two titles on the day, and this time in straightforward fashion in the final, as she had too much for Steph Clarke in a 5-0 success. Wins against Gemma Reynolds, Vicky Cauteruccio and Amy Chappell moved the Caribbean Queen into the quarter finals, and she eased past Rebecca Rose 5-2 to make the last four.
Serial winner Gemma Hayter would stand in Hedman’s way of the final, and an 83.36 average confirmed a second straight final in a 5-3 success. Clarke overcame Lisa Brosnan and Vickie Louise, and then needed a final leg to get past Jo Locke, but then stunned Vicky Pruim to make the semi finals, an 81.68 average enough for a 5-0 victory.
‘The Swan’ then battled past Eve Watson on the big stage, a 5-3 win booking a place against Hedman in the title match. A 90 checkout opened Hedman’s account, and she dominated, an average of over 80 making it a double celebration on the day in a 5-0 win.
That win put Hedman 41 points behind Hayter in the standings, with Eve Watson in third, and Trina Gulliver level on points in fourth.
The final four events take place at the same venue on 24th and 25th of October.
