WADC Winmau Championship South: Hayter Heads Rankings As Finals Qualification Battle Hots Up

Diamond Draws Competitions

The Women’s Amateur Darts Circuit’s Winmau Championship South resumes this weekend at Bradmoor Farm in Aylesbury, with Events 5 and 6 on Saturday and Events 7 and 8 on Sunday.

It’s the second of three weekends in the South contingent, and with a third of the campaign still to play, this is where the table really starts to take shape.

DartsWorld Ambassador and recently crowned World Masters champion Gemma Hayter arrives as the clear leader after the opening weekend in May, sitting top of the table on 105 points with a 76.28 average, comfortably the best numbers of anyone in the field. It’s an early statement of intent, and with two more event weekends still to come, a strong showing at Bradmoor Farm would go a long way towards putting real daylight between herself and the chasing pack.

The pack in question is led by Louise Pearson in second on 86 points, with two-time former world champion Trina Gulliver (pictured above) close behind in third on 82. Deta Hedman, another of the game’s most recognisable names, sits just one point further back with 81.

Only the top eight players on the South table after the third and final weekend in October will qualify for the Grand Final at the MODUS Live Lounge in Portsmouth this November, so the positions below the leading four matter just as much heading into this weekend.

Jo Locke currently holds fifth on 60 points, with Eve Watson sixth on 58. Vicky Pruim and Steph Clarke round out the qualification places in seventh and eighth, but neither has much of a cushion.

Rebecca Rose sits ninth on 26 points, with Lisa Brosnan and Jade Gofford close behind. A big weekend from any of that chasing group could easily reshuffle the bottom half of the automatic qualification spots before the players even get to October.
