Jeff Smith claimed the automatic Finals Night berth from Group A on Wednesday after three days of tightly contested MODUS Super Series action at the Live Lounge in Portsmouth.
‘The Silencer’ finished the round-robin with 13 wins from 15 matches, collecting 26 points and a healthy +28 leg difference at an average of around 88.
Michael Wiles pushed him all the way, ending on 24 points after a near-perfect campaign that included a clean sweep on Day Two.
Jamie Atkins took third on 16 points, while Nico Plovier, Jim Widmayer and three-time major champion Robert Thornton completed the group lower down the table.
Smith entered the final day just behind Wiles but produced the consistency required across the best-of-seven-legs matches to secure the prized “Wednesday Warrior” slot and a direct path to Saturday’s Finale.
Wiles had looked the man to beat after winning all five of his Tuesday encounters, yet Smith’s superior overall record and leg difference proved decisive when the dust settled.
Atkins had set the early pace. On Monday he won four of his five matches to lead the group overnight on eight points, with both Smith and Wiles also on eight but trailing on leg difference. Thornton endured a torrid opening day, suffering five straight defeats.
Tuesday belonged entirely to Wiles, who climbed to the summit with maximum points. Smith stayed firmly in touch, while Atkins slipped to third. By Wednesday the top two were clear, and Smith held his nerve when it mattered most.
Players finishing second to sixth will now be split into Groups B and C for Thursday and Friday’s afternoon and evening sessions, joined by new entrants. Further Finals Night places remain up for grabs, with the weekly winner collecting the top prize and a place in Champions Week.
