Last-Gasp Self Snatches Final Champions Week Place

Play The Pro Darts Scorer

The final week at MODUS Super Series for this season ended with a bang, as 16-year-old Archie Self dramatically took his place in Champions Week by securing Week 12 glory in Portsmouth.

‘The Archer’ won Group A earlier in the week, and arrived at the MODUS Live Lounge as one of the favourites, justifying that in his opening 4-1 win against Ricardo Ulrich.

Self then backed that win up with another 4-1 win, this time against Graham Usher, as he marched into the semi-finals.

Two 180s and a 111 checkout blasted Self into the final, with Jack Aldridge no match in a contest lasting under eight minutes, and it would be PDC Winmau Challenge Tour Order of Merit winner Joe Hunt that would stand between the youngster and glory.

Hunt had to work harder for his place in the final, averaging over 97 in a 4-2 win against Nathan Potter, and he then edged out Aldridge in a final leg despite averaging over five points less than his opponent.

The Isle of Wight man did ease into the showpiece though, too good for the below-par Usher to recoird a whitewash win.

It was all going Hunt’s way in the final too, as he pinned double 16 to race into a 3-0 lead, but Self was far from done, clawing his way back into the contest to force a deciding leg.

There, Self’s scoring proved too good, and a nerveless 88 finish dramatically secured the title, first prize, and the coveted place in Champions Week.
