The WDF Europe Cup 2026 Open Pairs title will be contested between Wales and Finland after both nations came through a dramatic knockout stage in Tórshavn.

The final is set

David Davies and Llew Bevan will represent Wales in Saturday’s final after edging a deciding-leg thriller, while Finland’s Jonas Masalin and Teemu Harju produced one of the standout finishes of the tournament to book their place.

Finland were first through, defeating Wales 5-2 in the semi-finals as Masalin and Harju saved their best for the decisive moments. An 11-darter sealed their place in the final and secured another Europe Cup medal for Harju, who was a Singles finalist four years ago.

The result also gives Finland the opportunity to claim their first-ever Europe Cup Gold in the event. The nation has now collected 32 Europe Cup medals, but a victory on Saturday would represent a landmark first title.

Their route to the final included a 4-2 quarter-final victory over Hungary’s Gyorgy Jehirszki and Nandor Major, guaranteeing Finland at least Bronze before their semi-final success.

Davies and Bevan, meanwhile, survived a deciding-leg battle to overcome England and reach the final, with Davies producing the crucial finish by taking out 96.

Their quarter-final had already underlined their quality, as the Welsh duo averaged 100.26 in a 4-0 victory over the other Finnish pair of Jani Haavisto and Mio Varila.

Elsewhere

Wales have also enjoyed success elsewhere in the Pairs competition, with Liam Meek and Mark Challenger securing a second Welsh medal with a 4-0 quarter-final win over Luxembourg’s Jim Mayer and Tom Becker.

Their run had earlier included a notable 4-2 victory over defending champions Johan Engström and Andreas Harrysson, ending the Swedish pairs reign at the first hurdle.

England also secured a medal through Jenson Walker and Lloyd Pennell, who defeated Denmark’s Benjamin Drue Reus and Jonas Graversen to guarantee at least Bronze.

The early stages had also produced some spectacular performances. Berry van Peer and Danny van Trijp opened their campaign with a huge 106.65 average against Catalonia. However, despite the explosive start, the Dutch duo were eliminated in the Last 32 by Ireland’s Dale McCarthy and Damien Grimes.

Mitchell Lawrie and Scott Campbell also exited at that stage, losing 4-2 to Austria’s Franko Giuliani and Christian Goedl.

The darts picture

Now, only Wales and Finland remain. Davies and Bevan will look to continue the Red Dragon’s dominance after yesterday’s team event highlighted their quality, while Masalin and Harju will attempt to turn Finland’s latest Europe Cup medal into a historic first Gold.

The Open Pairs title will be decided on Saturday.
