The Teams events got the 2026 WDF Europe Cup under way in Torshavn, with both the Open and Women’s round-robin darts groups completed and the Last 16 draws now set. Wales were the story of the day in both competitions, while the Faroe Islands’ hopes as host nation ended despite a positive start.
Open Teams
Wales were the standout team of the opening round-robin, winning all four of their Group H matches to finish top with the best average of any team in the competition, 85.15.
David Davies (pictured) completed the sweep with a 9-0 win over Slovakia, and with Liam Meek, Llew Bevan and Mark Challenger alongside him, Wales will fancy adding the Europe Cup to last year’s World Cup title. Hungary joined them as passers through Group H.
Group A went down to the wire. With the England team of Sean Holley, Lloyd Pennell, Jenson Walker and Carl Wilkinson already through, it took the last leg of the last match to settle second place. Romania’s Adam Frim pinned the winning double to edge out Türkiye on a 9-8 scoreline.
The Faroe Islands, the host nation, finished third in the group despite winning their first match over Romania, missing out on the knockout stage.
Switzerland also needed a decider to progress. Alex Fehlmann hit double 10 to beat Catalonia 9-8 in their final group match. It capped a campaign of three wins and a single loss for Switzerland, enough to join Scotland through from Group F.
Elsewhere, the group winners were largely straightforward: England (Group A), Finland (Group B), Germany (Group C), Czechia (Group D), Netherlands (Group E), Scotland (Group F), Sweden (Group G) and Wales (Group H ) all finished unbeaten or close to it, with Iceland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Norway, Romania and Slovenia completing the Last 16 line-up alongside the group winners and Switzerland.

Ladies Teams
Wales topped the Women’s standings too, winning all four Group C matches for the best average in the women’s competition, 69.48, well clear of the next best figure.
England were similarly dominant in Group A, winning all three matches with a 63.33 average, with Türkiye following them through after edging a tight race with Italy for second.
The Faroe Islands’ women fared no better than their male counterparts, finishing bottom of Group F without a win. Denmark topped that group, though not without a scare. Slovenia actually posted the higher average in their final meeting by a single point, but lost 9-5, Denmark’s consistency across the round-robin proving enough to see them through alongside Slovenia in second.
England (Group A), Norway (Group B), Wales (Group C), Sweden (Group D), Netherlands (Group E), Denmark (Group F), Republic of Ireland (Group G) and Scotland (Group H) all finished top of their groups, with Finland, Germany, Croatia, Switzerland, Slovenia, Türkiye, France and Czechia joining them in the Last 16.
With both Teams events now down to 16, action in Torshavn continues from 1pm today, with the commencement of the Open Pairs and Ladies Singles.
