Fairytale of New Richie

Red Dragon Darts

THE Fairytale story of Darts’ very own Prince of Wales, Richie Burnett, has more chapters than many a Russian novel. The 1995 Lakeside World Champion is back at The Palace and has just signed an extended contract with long time friends and commercial supporter Red Dragon darts:

A darts epic that has captivated fans for over three decades takes another major step in the direction of Norse legend, as the real Prince of Wales, qualified once more for the PDC World Championships for the first time in almost a decade and marked the occasion which extends his even longer relationship with darts fastest growing brand Red Dragon.

The wild child of darts with a heart of gold has always captivated fans and players wherever he goes, it’s down to one quality that you just can’t fake, authenticity. The remarkable Cwmparc man also captured the 1994 Winmau World Masters during one of the WDF’s strongest talent periods. ( read about the Legacy of the Lost Prince of Wales here )

When he later crossed to the PDC he had immediate success, even whilst playing both codes for a while and was often only stopped by an imperious Phil Taylor.

Following his much-publicised downfall, the road back to darts’ top table was not easy. Yet the advent of the MODUS Super League (nee Live League) played a strong role. The volume of match practice together with a fiercely competitive field and TV/stage-type surroundings. Richie’s late-night Champions Week win which he almost completed with a 9-darter signaled that he truly was ready for a return.

After regaining his PDC tour card Richie has been readapting to life at the elite level during 2022 and seems to be finding his pro tour feet again this Autumn. Even at the tender age of 50 the evergreen Richie still believes he has what it takes to win on the world’s biggest darts stages.

He added:

“The team that run Red Dragon are amazing as they have never let me down and I’ll never forget that, and it would be amazing to stay around for a few big moments to share with them”.

Simon Hall Director of Marketing added:

“We go back many years with Richie and we’ve enjoyed every minute working with one darts most passionate and engaging personalities, he lights up the room by bouncing in like the lord of the manor, yet he has the most down-to-earth touch and we wish him every success in this his latest chapter”.

Returning from set back after set back the enigmatic Welshman was once heralded as the greatest talent to ever play the game of darts, and whilst Richie, by his own admission, let the fame and success go to his head he’s never failed to have a positive outlook for the future.

The wild-styled Welshman takes on Adam Gawlas at the PDC World Championships, where he will leave millions sat in mesmeric anticipation of which Riche Burnett will turn up, and maybe, just maybe the much loved Prince of Wales can create something royally special to warm the cockles of his many fans hearts at this miraculous darting time of the year?

Richie’s Game will be shown LIVE on Sky and many other channels around The World on Thursday the 22nd of December from 12.30pm
