Beau Greaves became the 2nd player to win the Betfred Women’s World Matchplay after beating Mikuru Suzuki 6-1 in the Final at the Winter Gardens.
The reigning WDF Ladies World Champion secures her pathway to the upcoming Grand Slam and the PDC World Championship, after securing victories over Mikuru, Robyn Byrne and Noa van Leuven.
The Doncaster born thrower has been the most inform player on the PDC Women’s Series throughout 2023, as she claims £10,000 in prize money in Blackpool.
Greaves made her Winter Gardens debut on Sunday afternoon, as he whitewashed Noa van Leuven 4-0 in the opening match of the tournament with an average of 82.36.
The 19-year-old wrapped up victory on double 16 to clinch victory in the Quarter Final, where she would go on to face Robyn Byrne who won an entertaining match with Rhian O’Sullivan.
The 26-year-old from Dublin crucially finished 95 in the 7th and deciding leg against Rhian, who had left tops should the 4th Seed have missed.
Beau saved her best performance for the Semi Finals, including 2 180s and an 89.51 average in beating Byrne 5-3 in Blackpool.
The Number 1 Seed found a checkout rate of 55.56% after missing just 4 darts at double, in an impressive display on the outer ring.
Defending champion Fallon Sherrock MBE fell at the first hurdle at the Winter Gardens, with 4-time World Champion Lisa Ashton winning a last leg decider to clinch a 4-3 victory in the final Quarter Final.
It was 2nd Seed Mikuru Suzuki though that produced the most impressive Last 8 display, after she included a 92.16 average and a 66.67% double rate in beating last year’s runner up Aileen de Graaf 4-2.
Miracle went on to reach the Final after beating Ashton 5-3 in the Semi Finals, including a 100 finish in the third leg to break for a 3-0 lead.
The former 2-time BDO World Champion wrapped up victory with the first 180 of the match to leave double 8, before returning in the following visit to find double 4 with her second dart.
Greaves started strong in the Final, opening a 5-0 lead including 2 breaks of throw in the 2nd and 4th legs.
Beau n Arrow found 3 180s to delight the Blackpool crowd and wrapped up her first Matchplay title with a 74 finish, hitting double 20 with her last dart in hand.
“I wasn’t at my best, but I got over the line, so I’m really happy. I didn’t think I was going to win this with the way I was playing, but after the year I’ve had and all the tournaments I’ve won, I’m so grateful to be stood here holding this trophy.”
“It means everything [to win this title]. I’ve got so much respect for all of the ladies that have played up here, and I’m looking forward to another great year.”
The 19-year-old will head to Aldersley Leisure Village and the Alexandra Palace for the Grand Slam of Darts and the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship, continuing to grow having won 66 matches in a row last year to secure her spot at the 2023 World Championship.
“I’m so excited to be going to the Grand Slam and the World Championship, but I need to practice more. I need to get more comfortable on the big stage.”
A successful second staging of the Women’s World Matchplay at the Winter Gardens, with Beau Greaves becoming the 2nd player to win the competition having only dropped 4 legs from 3 matches.
