John Henderson and Dom Taylor were victorious on Saturday, in winning Winmau Challenge Tour Events 20 & 21 respectively, as the final weekend of the PDC’s second tier tour season commenced at the Robin Park Tennis Centre, Wigan.
Former Tour Card Holder, Henderson, who picked up his maiden Challenge Tour title back in March, went all the way once again, as he reached the final of Event 20 firstly by recording victories against Kurt Parry, Marcel Walpen, Shane McGuirk, Jelle Klaasen, Reece Robinson and Alan Norris, to set up a clash with Germany’s Lukas Wenig.
Nothing separated the pair in the opening four legs of the final, with the match being all square at 2 apiece, before Wenig pinned a 15 darter to move 3-2 ahead in a race to five.
Henderson then rattled off three consecutive legs in a total of 47 darts, which saw ‘The Highlander’ seal a 5-3 victory and pick up a 2nd Challenge Tour title of the year, as well as the £2,500 top prize.
In Event 21, Dom Taylor was victorious, as he reached the final firstly by recording victories against Max Baulcomb, Darren Brown, Sebastian Bialecki, Henry Coates, Joe Croft, Thibault Tricole and Scott Campbell, to set up a clash with Cam Crabtree.
The final began with four straight holds of throw between the pair, before Taylor charged in front, with ‘The Tower’ rattling off three consecutive legs in 19,12 and 14 darts respectively, which saw him seal a 5-2 victory against his fellow compatriot to pick up a maiden Challenge Tour title of his career.
The PDC Winmau Challenge Tour weekend continues on Sunday, with Events 22 & 23 taking place in Wigan, with play commencing at 10:00 GMT, as all live scores and results can be viewed at tv.dartconnect.com.
