A fantastic field of 74 men and 16 women assembled at the Somercotes Snooker Club, Leabrooks Road, Derbyshire for the 6th Ripley Elite Darts Singles League’s Grand Prix.
Some fantastic players were in attendance from all over the Midlands together with a very strong Yorkshire contingent. However, many big names fell by the wayside as early as the preliminary round, with such luminaries as Canada’s Danny Lauby, recent winner of the Warwickshire Men’s Super League Singles and Multiple PDC winner and current MODUS Super Series Specialist Colin Osborne, both losing 5-2 to respective opponents Tom Loveley and Paul Lewis.
who not only made their way to the respective men’s and ladies final but actually went on to win the titles.
Burkhill collected the winner’s £500 first prize with a fantastic all round performance beating Daz Webster 5-4, Eddie Lovely 5-3, Brian Dawson 5-1, Lloyd Pennell 5-3 and Martyn Turner 6-2 before winning the final against Chris Bird 7-4 in what was a very tough draw seeing him defeat some elite players along the way.
As runner-up Chris Bird received £250, there was £100 for the losing semi-finalists Daz Johnson and Martyn Turner while players that went out in the last eight Nick Fullwell, Tony Hill, Nigel Daniels and Lloyd Pennell each picked up £50.
In the ladies competition Rose Mort came through with wins against Jo Shaw 4-0, Louise Rawson 4-0, Linda Potter 5-2 and then in the final beat fellow Derbyshire county player Sammie Marshall 6-1.
As champion Rose Mort collected the top prize of £250 with runner-up Sammie Marshall receiving £60. As losing semi-finalists there was £25 each for Linda Porter and Marie Leahy.
