The traditional quieter mid summer spell allows for the catching up of missed fixtures and the completion of various cups and secondary competitions.

The Camp Hill League has been busy lately with their singles knockout, League Cup and usual league fixtures. Players representing the league’s top two teams Bob Hayer (Wakefield Warriors) and Neil Parsonage (Cotterills Lane EBAHA Club) made their exits in the semi-finals of the singles knockout leaving Simon Edwards (Erdington Nomads) and Dave Heighway (Tyseley Bears) to battle out the final. The eventual winner was Dave Heighway with Simon Edwards runner-up.

For the League Cup it was the last four play-off with both fixtures finishing with a 5-2 result as league leaders Wakefield Warriors won against Moseley Arms with Jason Jennings recording a maximum 170 finish and joining Wakefield in the final will be currently second in the league, Cotterills Lane EBAHA Club who accounted for Erdington Nomads.

On the league front Wakefield Warriors took their undefeated run to thirteen games with a close 4-3 win at Erdington Nomads who are fourth in the league, the win giving Wakefield the title as they are now six points to the good on second placed Cotterills Lane EBAHA Club’s as they went down 4-3 at third in the table Tyseley Bears who are now just two points short of Cotterills with one more game to play.

No change in the top three places in group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League, despite leaders Langley Arrows having their fixture at Highwood postponed they are still top of the group with a one point lead on second placed Raven Arrows and also have a game in hand. Raven Arrows had a 5-3 home win over bottom of the group Mackadown Sports and Social Club with Jason Jennings hitting a maximum for the home side. Highwood are third two points behind Raven with a game in hand.

No change in the top four places of the group two as leaders Banbury Club chalked up a 7-1 home win over Kingshurst Labour Club to put them on ten points, two more than second in the group Trident Spears who were somewhat surprisingly held to a 4-4 draw at home by Hornet, the draw seeing Hornet move off the foot of the table, one point better off than EBAHA whose 5-3 home defeat by third in the table Yardley Ex Colts sees them drop to the bottom position with just one point.

It was top versus bottom in group three with leaders Sheldon Marlborough Ridge travelling to take on bottom placed Shirley Misfits. The result was a 4-4 draw which leaves the home side still bottom of the group on three points and Ridge hold on to pole position with nine points which is two more than their nearest rivals Smithswood Social Club who won 6-2 at Old Salts Darts who as a result of their defeat drop one place to third, on the same seven points as Smithswood but from one game more than them.

There was just one fixture played in group four in which leaders Raven played away against fourth placed Sheldon Marlborough Flights. The result was all-square at 4-4 and with second in the group Moseley Rugby Club not playing they are now just one point behind Raven with a game in hand.   

Top individual performances this week came from Lee Hodges 14 darts game (Brian’s Flights), Neil Clarke 136 finish (Raven Arrows), Tom Cupkovic 13 darts game (Trident Spears), Rob Wilson 180 and Gill Lynch 106 finish (Hornet), Noel Hall 133 finish (Maggies).

With games now running out in the Kings Norton League only two points separate the top four teams but they have played a varying number of games. Leaders Copper Fox had a 5-2 win at Coppice to give them thirty-four points from twenty games while second placed Thurlestone are on the same thirty-four points but from twenty-two games after adding their latest 6-1 home win over Longbridge. Third and fourth placed Northfield and Bournebrook both have thirty-two points Northfield’s 6-1 win at Cock Inn their twentieth game while Bournebrook have played twenty-one after they added their latest 4-3 win at Dingle.

The South West Birmingham Clubs Summer League are up to game three of their season and Stichley United, leaders of division one made it three straight wins when they won their home game with Northfield Darts Club 4-3, a game which included no fewer than 22 scores of a ton or more with 12 going to Stirchley whose top player was M.Welsh with 120 and 100 breaks plus scores of 137 and 100, while Northfield had 10 top scores with L.Fowler their top player with 120 and 115 breaks together with scores of 123 and 100. Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’, Bournbrook and Quarry Club are all on four points, two fewer than the leaders, K.Prosser hitting a 180 for th Conservative Club ‘B’.

In division two Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’ are the only team to have won all three games the most recent being a 4-3 win away against their nearest rivals, second in the division Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club. The result was a 4-3 win for Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’ to give them a two points advantage over their hosts who hold on to the number two spot. S.Cartwright had a super 160 game shot for Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club.

Old Liberal Club have nine more games to play in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League and after winning 6-1 at Netherton Conservative Club ‘A’ made it twenty-seven consecutive wins in the league, their unbeaten run giving them a perfect total of fifty-four points and a lead of eight over second placed Princesss whose latest fixture saw them play away against Rose and Crown’A’ and win 5-2. Gate Hangs Well ‘B’ are third in the league, they handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their visitors Glasscutters ‘B’ to leave them two points behind Princess with a game in hand. A further two points adrift with forty-two points is fourth placed Netherton Conservative Club ‘B’ who had a 6-1 win at Raven ‘B’. 

Two players A.Purchase (Netherton Conservative Club ‘A’) and C.Moreton (Princess found the three treble twenties this week while K.Bambrick (Old Liberal Club) had a 160 break.

The Silver End Sunday Morning League staged the final of their Memorial Knockout which turned out to be an all Old Liberal Club affair with Ian Hartland picking up the winners silverware and team mate Karl Hipkiss finishing as runner-up.

Only one rearranged fixture was played in the Netherton Thursday Night League this week and that was between Bulls Head and Old Liberal Club. Going into the fixture Old Liberal Club were top of the league with sixty-six points and already confirmed as champions while Bulls Head were third with fifty-seven points. It was as expected a close game with the 5-4 result going to Old Liberal Club to give them a final total of sixty-nine points with runners-up Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ some nine points behind them on sixty points, three more than Bulls Head who will finish third in the league although they still have one more game to play against Plough and Harrow but even a 9-0 victory would leave them level on points with Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ but trailing by two legs of average.

A 5-2 win away to Mount Pleasant keeps Five Ways ‘A’ top of the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League and also stretches their undefeated run to twelve games. Second in the league Old Liberal Club ‘A’ were in top form as they handed their hosts Brickmakers Arms a 7-0 whitewash to keep them within two points of the leaders and two to the good on third and fourth placed Bird in Hand ‘E’ and Hollybush, Bird in Hand ‘E’ winning at Fox Inn (Lye) and Hollybush beating their hosts Garibaldi.

There was just the one rearranged fixture played in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League which was between Tommy Turners ‘A’ and Roebuck ‘A’. Prior to the fixture Tommy Turners ‘A’ were next to bottom of the league table with just one win from their eleven games, their ‘B’ side bottom without a win in as many games. Roebuck ‘A’ were placed sixth but a convincing 8-1 win saw them move up three places to third reducing the deficit on the undefeated leaders Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ to six points while their hosts remain next to bottom of the table.

Vine ‘A’ march on in the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League making it eighteen wins in nineteen games when they won 4-3 against Sow and Pigs although being as they had home advantage, their opponents are placed some nine places below them and have twenty-two points fewer than them it was a surprisingly close result. Nevertheless Vine ‘A’ remain top of the league and have a six point’s advantage over both second and third Allen’s Bar and Tamebridge. Allen’s Bar won their home game with Albion 6-1 while Tamebridge, like Vine ‘A’ won 4-3 as they played away against fifth in the league Horseley Tavern ‘A’.

A local derby for Allen’s Bar against Allen’s Bar ‘B’ in the Black Country Men’s Super League saw the former win 4-1 to keep them top of the table with thirty-five points and a lead of three plus a game in hand over Townsend ‘A’ in second place after they won by the same 4-1 margin against Halesowen Cricket Club. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club are third, they won 3-2 against Northfield Darts Club to put them on twenty-seven points.

Gemma Barrett continues to lead the West Midlands Ladies Super League adding a further 3-0 win over Hannah Davies to her tally to give her 58 points from 22 games. Second in the league Jackie Trott lost 3-2 to third placed Jacqueline Maiden and has 53 points from 19 games while Jacqueline Maiden added a further 3-0 win over Crysta Davies-Wilcox to her account to put her on 52 points from 19 games.

There was only one rearranged fixture played in the West Midlands Men’s Super League which saw Cottage Spring beat Landywood 4-1 the result having no effect on the league table whatsoever.

Nick Fullwell suffered a setback to his title aspirations in the Amblecote RBL Premier League when after winning 5-2 against Joe Poole he lost 6-1 to his nearest rival Gavin Smith leaving him on 277 points from 54 games and Smith on 271 from 52 games. Former leader Dan Nicholls didn’t play and is currently fourth with 269 points from 48 games. Steadily climbing the table is late comer Tom Bissell, he added a 7-0 win over Josh Hodgkins, 6-1 wins over Rob Pierce and Neil Murphy to leave him eighth in the table with 236 points but from only 43 games.

Scott Baker continued his push for the division one title in the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League by adding a further 6-2 win over Paul Price to his tally to give him 196 points from 26 games. Currently second in the division Dean Simmons-Fullwood has three games in hand on Baker but still 34 points behind him after he beat Andy Mullinder 5-3.

Kurt Wright leads the way in division two even though he didn’t play in the latest round of fixtures, he has 181 points from 23 games and also a game in hand over his nearest rivals second and third placed Alan Melling and Allan Davies, Melling winning 6-2 against fourth placed Artur Lubkowski to leave him sixteen points short of Wright while Davies lost ground as he went down 5-3 to Richard Brown giving him a total of 150 points, a huge 31 fewer than Wright.

The biggest question in the whole of the league is will anyone beat division three leader Dave Thackeray? To date Thackeray has played twenty-four games and won all of them dropping just nineteen legs in the process. In the latest round of fixtures Thackeray beat a former divisional leader Michele Pritchard 8-0 to put him on 221 points from his 24 games with a lead of twenty-two points over second placed Thomas Hollowood who won his game against Claire Hobbs 6-2 to take his total points from twenty-six games to 199.
