UK Open 2026: Littler Imperiously Retains Latest Major Title

Diamond Draws Competitions

Reigning World Champion Luke Littler successfully retained his UK Open darts crown, once again overcoming James Wade to ensure the famous trophy remains firmly in the possession of the teenage tungsten tornado.

For the second consecutive year, The Nuke faced the only man who has participated in every single UK Open staging since the tournament’s inception – the indefatigable James Wade.

Since Littler’s triumph in Minehead twelve months ago, the prodigious youngster has repeatedly thwarted Wade’s ambitions, most notably denying him another World Matchplay title in Blackpool last summer. Now, for the third time, Littler has prevailed over his decorated compatriot, adding yet another gleaming accolade to an already burgeoning collection of honours.

Both finalists, however, were forced to navigate immensely demanding semi-finals before arriving on the main stage. In a contest that encapsulated everything audiences have come to expect from a James Wade versus Gerwyn Price confrontation, the pair delivered a pulsating spectacle that had the Butlin’s crowd utterly enthralled.

The Iceman began the stronger, surging into an early 3-1 advantage with typically ferocious scoring. Yet following the opening interval, Wade began to assert himself with characteristic composure, gradually manoeuvring his way back into the contest. With the match delicately poised at 5-5, the three-time UK Open champion shifted into an altogether higher gear.

What followed was a devastating exhibition of finishing brilliance. Wade rattled in eleven maximums and produced a majestic 105.53 average, ultimately becoming the first to secure his place in the final. The second semi-final proved equally dramatic.

After an absorbing and fiercely competitive encounter, Luke Littler eventually edged past fellow Premier League star Josh Rock in a match the Northern Irishman may spend considerable time reflecting upon. At the first interval, Rocky found himself in an imposing 4-1 lead and, upon returning to the stage, extended that advantage by a further chalk to establish what appeared to be a commanding position.

Predictably, however, the Warrington wonderkid soon erupted into life. Almost without warning, Littler clawed his way back until the scoreboard once again read level. Many players might have capitulated after surrendering such a substantial advantage, yet Rock demonstrated admirable resilience. The Antrim arrow smith refused to retreat and once again surged ahead to lead 9-7.Sadly for Rocky, that would prove to be his final contribution to the scoreboard.

From that point onward Littler unleashed a blistering sequence of four consecutive legs, extinguishing Rock’s hopes and securing a repeat of the previous year’s UK Open final. Once again, the same two protagonists returned to the stage beneath the Minehead lights.

Littler sought to become only the fourth player in history to retain the title, while Wade aimed to collect his fourth UK Open crown. The Aldershot Ace may have feared the worst when Littler stormed into a rapid 3-0 lead. Yet the veteran displayed immense resolve, responding immediately to restore parity at 3-3.

It was then the 19-year old’s turn to seize momentum, rattling off three consecutive legs of his own before Wade once again demonstrated his tenacity to level the contest. At that juncture, the World Champions average hovered roughly ten points higher than his opponent’s, yet the seasoned campaigner stubbornly refused to be shaken off.

Eventually, though, the youngster managed to prise himself free from Wade’s grip. With a sudden and decisive change of tempo, Littler accelerated away to seal victory and once again conquer the Machine. For Wade, the defeat marks a third runners up finish inside the space of a year at the hands of his compatriot.

Nevertheless, enormous credit must be afforded to a player who continues to perform at the sport’s highest echelon and contend for major titles more than two decades after his emergence onto the professional scene. As for Luke Littler, the superlatives continue to run perilously thin.

The teenage phenomenon now appears to arrive at tournaments with an almost routine expectation of departing with silverware in hand. For those attempting to keep count, his tally of PDC televised major titles has now climbed to twelve – one more than the decorated legend he had just defeated.
