The opening weekend of the 2026 Championship Darts Circuit (CDC) took place in New York State, with an opportunity up for grabs for one fortunate arrow-smith to feature at the upcoming US Darts Masters alongside the opening brace of tour tournaments.
And it was all about one man – Adam Sevada, who rose to the challenge and claimed both titles.Set against the picturesque backdrop near Niagara Falls, The Reaper was the first player of the weekend to make a huge splash.
By claiming the opening event – edging fellow American Stowe Buntz in a thrilling final – the 40-year-old moved level with The Neon Nightmare’s record haul of nine CDC titles.
Sevada began strongly, winning two of his opening three matches without dropping a leg before cruising past compatriot Michael Nguyen to reach the semi-finals. There, he pinched the deciding leg to silence Canada’s Jeff Smith and book a showdown with Buntz.
It was Adam who started the stronger, racing into an early 3-1 lead. Virginia thrower Buntz then responded with a four-leg burst to leapfrog his opponent.
However, it was Sevada who finished the stronger, reeling off three consecutive legs of his own to secure yet another crown.
Then, the following day, the Arizona arrow-smith was at it again, this time cruising to a far more comfortable victory over Brayden Hall to complete the double. After recording three separate 6-1 wins and surviving a nervy deciding leg against Ram Guevara Jr, Sevada once again found himself at the business end of the tournament.
A strong victory over Danny Young booked him a second final in as many days, one he won comfortably against Canadian thrower Hall.It was then time for another iconic American player to take centre stage and, after Leonard Gates’ exploits, he too will be lining up at this year’s US Darts Masters.
The popular Texan strolled into the final of the qualifier, only truly being tested in his opening match against Nathan Humphries before eventually seeing off the Canadian.
Across Gates’ next four matches, he dropped the same total number of legs combined before sealing his place at Madison Square Garden with a hard-fought 5-3 victory over fellow American Brad Farley.
For the rest still hoping to secure a spot at the US Darts Masters, another opportunity will arrive in June at the second CDC meeting of the season in Philadelphia.
