The latest PDC Development Tour burst into life in spectacular fashion as young Polish sensation Sebastian Bialecki completed a remarkable title double, collecting his fourth and fifth crowns of the season by defeating Czechia’s David Fidler and England’s Cam Crabtree in the respective finals.
On the opening day in Milton Keynes, and in what represented the two instalments of the customary five-event series, The Bolt exploded out of the blocks once again to secure yet more silverware on arguably the most fiercely contested youth circuits in world darts.
The 22-year-old navigated his way through a field in the region of 500 aspirants, relinquishing only a smattering of legs throughout a remarkably authoritative display. Intriguingly, Bialecki arguably encountered his sternest examination in the embryonic stages of the competition, prevailing in a superlative encounter against Ireland’s Ciaran Forde in just his second outing.
Once the Lodz prodigy had dispatched Jurjen van der Velde with a scintillating showing, the remainder of the day proved comparatively straightforward. A commendable quarter-final performance against fellow Tour Card holder Cam Crabtree preceded the Pole’s most devastating exhibition of the event, a breathtaking 108.91 average which culminated in a merciless whitewash of Dutchman Jamai van den Herik.
The finale itself proved to be a largely one-sided affair, with Bialecki asserting his authority from the outset and proving far too formidable for the valiant Fidler. Indeed, the Czech could do little to halt the inexorable momentum of his illustrious opponent.Onto the second event of the day, and Bialecki maintained his impressive unbeaten run, stringing together another nine successive victories to complete a remarkable daily double.
Yet again, the Pole was scarcely troubled as he powered through the sizeable field of aspiring stars. By the time he reached the semi-finals, he had surrendered just seven legs. There, Czech ace Adam Gawlas finally provided a stern examination. There was almost a moment of magic with Gawlas agonisingly missing double 12 for what would have been a perfect nine-darter.
Bialecki ultimately weathered the storm and edged through to another final.Once there, the youngster returned to his imperious best, comfortably dispatching Cam Crabtree for the second time that day to secure Development Tour title number eleven and continue his extraordinary start to the current campaign. It could prove to be a particularly memorable fortnight for the burgeoning star.
Fresh from this Development Tour dual coronation, Bialecki will once again join his exalted compatriot Krzysztof Ratajski in proudly representing Poland at next week’s World Cup of Darts, where the pair will harbour aspirations of making a significant impression on the global stage.
That dangerous looking duo could be quite the dark horse in Frankfurt too.
