DartsWorld’s Amateur Player of 2025, Jack Tweddell, dominated the latest instalment of the Concierge Senior Darts circuit, the Taunton Open. The event culminated in a compelling and fiercely contested championship encounter, with reigning ADC Global Champion Tweddell ultimately prevailing over Johnny Haines in a tense deciding leg to secure yet another distinguished accolade.
Staged at the historic headquarters of Somerset County Cricket Club, the event attracted an impressive assembly of 83 competitors representing a broad demographic spectrum. The picturesque county town of Taunton, situated upon the banks of the River Tone and renowned for its rich architectural heritage, provided an appropriately distinguished backdrop for proceedings.

The tournament adopted a round-robin configuration, necessitating a meticulous and highly intricate organisational framework. Participants were apportioned across twelve groups, thereby establishing the foundations for a day of exacting and uncompromising competition. Among those commencing their campaign was Tweddell, who had been allocated to Group G.

The Wiltshire thrower immediately demonstrated the imperious qualities that have elevated him to the summit of the sport. Producing a sequence of performances characterised by extraordinary precision and unwavering composure, he negotiated the group phase with consummate authority, emerging undefeated after five matches and scarcely affording his opponents an opportunity to establish any meaningful resistance.

His dominance remained undiminished once the knockout stages commenced. Displaying remarkable clinicality and an almost remorseless efficiency, Tweddell progressed through successive rounds with emphatic 4-0 victories. Ryan Page, Ian Loveridge, Michael Huntley, Josh McCarthy and Mitchell all fell victim to the defending ADC Global Champion, whose combination of relentless scoring and exemplary finishing rendered him virtually untouchable.

However, the championship match provided a considerably sterner examination. Johnny Haines delivered a performance of immense fortitude and competitive tenacity, refusing to capitulate against the tournament favourite.
Their encounter evolved into a captivating spectacle of fluctuating momentum and exceptional quality, eventually requiring a deciding leg to separate the protagonists.
In the final analysis, Tweddell’s superlative consistency and admirable sangfroid proved decisive, enabling him to preserve his title aspirations and further embellish an already illustrious résumé.
The overwhelming success of the occasion has ensured the return of the competition to Taunton, with another edition scheduled for 31 October. Following the resounding triumph of this year’s gathering, anticipation surrounding the forthcoming event is already beginning to intensify considerably.
