September sees the start of the madness that is the Autumn season in darts. From our sport’s commercial/professional beginnings Autumn and Winter months have been the most important. Even the amateur game was strongly built around leagues that took place mainly through the colder half of the year.
Perhaps the most significant upcoming event this week is the ČEZ Czech Darts Open. As with most of the PDC’s European branch event this seems to get more popular every year. It’s also rather important for qualification for the World Grand Prix, European Championship and more.

The MODUS Super Series is having another intriguing week with Noa Lynn Van Leuven making a debut , Neil Duff dominating and Mark Layton representing the legacy generation at the age of 68! It is also exactly 4 years since the current MSS iteration was launched!
Further afield the WDF race continues with Spanish and American legs this coming weekend in Barcelona and Washington next up.

Seven Darts Years Ago:
Mensur Suljovic pulled off a remarkable victory winning his home event of the PDC European Tour. His deciding leg (8-7) victory over MVG was typically dramatic for the Austrian hero.
Welsh stalwart Jim Williams claimed his major trophy with a win at the then BDO World Trophy with Lisa Ashton claiming the Women’s version.
Twenty Darts Years Ago:
September’s Darts World magazine in 2006 (Issue 406) was celebrating Kirk Shepherd’s second victory in the Teenage Championship. The vent was part sponsored by ourselves and owner founder Tony Wood presented the trophy named after his late wife. Almost incredibly, less than 18 months later Kirk was in the World Championship final at Ally Pally!
For a brief two year spell the aforementioned World Darts Trophy was a cross code event where both BDO and PDC players took part. 2006 featured the clash of the titans final between Phil Taylor (PDC) and Martin Adams (England captain and BDO standard bearer). The Power often saved a bit for these encounters and ran out the comfortable winner (7-2) having hit back to back 100+ averages in semi and final.
Fifteen Years Ago:
Speaking of 100+ averages don’t be lulled into thinking those outside the PDC could not play. In 2011 Scott Waites was in the midst of an outstanding spell – made more impressive as it was staged from outside the elite of the PDC – This week saw him claim the Winmau World Masters (WDF) with consecutive averages of 96,97,103 and 101.
