A roar, a double 9 and a place in tomorrow’s final. Sweden and England will contest the Europe Cup Women’s Pairs title.
Snezana Vejlkovic let out a huge roar after pinning double 5 to beat Finland 5-3, sending her and Anna Forsmark through.
It capped a near-flawless day for the Swedes, who had won four from four and dropped just one leg enroute to the semi-final, before which they secured a medal with a 4-0 quarter-final win over Ireland’s Rebecca Allen and Denise Cassidy.
England’s route was far more nervous. Both pairs showed it in the final leg of their semi-final, but Laura Turner eventually found double 9 to edge past Denmark’s Mona Lund and Line Kristiansen 5-3 and put herself and Steph Clarke into the final.
World Cup Pairs finalists last year, the English duo had earlier beaten Croatia’s Marina Letica and Gabriela Kurobasa 4-2 in the quarter-finals. They are now chasing England’s 11th gold in the event.
Finland and Denmark both walk away with Bronze.
Finland already had a medal from the Open Pairs, and Kirsi Viinikainen and Maret Liiri have added another. Liiri took out 92 to beat the Netherlands’ Priscilla Steenbergen and Sharon Straatsma 4-3 in the last eight.
Denmark’s Lund and Kristiansen got there the hard way too, with Kristiansen hitting the winning double in a 4-3 quarter-final win over Wales’ Rhian O’Sullivan and Leanne Topper.
