The traditional or ‘Winter Leagues’ are getting underway in the West Midlands area and as always our man Alan Towe is on top of the local darts news.
The Sheldon and District Winter League have kicked off their new season with a total of thirty-three teams split into three divisions. The early pacesetters in the premier division are Langley Arrows who had a 6-3 win playing away against Raven Arrows. There were 5-4 wins for five teams, Family Tree against Banbury Club, Highwood beat RAFA, there was a win for Mackadown Sports and Social Club at Kingshurst Labour Club, Sheldon Marlborough won at home against Dog Inn Nomads and Trident Spears won their home game against RAFA Arrows, with maximums from both Preston Cupkovic and Terry Clay.
In division one Lyndon Old Boys top the table following their 7-2 win at Moseley Rugby Club, they are closely followed by Hollywood Social Club, Langley Flights and Smithswood Social Club who in turn had 6-3 wins against Maggies, Raven and CBMC-A.
Leading the way in division two is Digby, their 8-1 home win over CBMC-Flights giving them a one leg advantage over both Arran Way Arrows and Hunters Moon who beat respective opponents Trident Flights and Mackadown Sports and Social Club ‘B’ 7-2. Fourth placed Raven Flights are a further one leg of average behind after their 6-3 home win over Weir Raven with Rob Condon hitting a maximum for Raven. Shirley Misfits make up the five winning teams they won 5-4 at Yardley District Amateur Darts.

The majority of teams in the Harborne and District League have completed their fixture list, however the title is still up for grabs for the top two teams, Copper Fox ‘R’ and Northfield Darts Club who both have three fixtures to play. Current leaders Copper Fox ‘R’ strengthened their pole position handing out a 9-0 whitewash to their hosts, next to bottom of the table Harborne Social while second placed Northfield Darts Club won their home tie with Thimble Mill 7-2 to put them on fifty points, two short of Copper Fox ‘R’. Third placed Northfield Conservative Club are on the same fifty points as Northfield Darts Club but have played twenty-nine games and only have one remaining.

After only six fixtures have been played in the Kings Norton League only Northfield Darts Club, who have played five games, are able to boast a 100% win record, their latest success being a 7-0 win at home over bottom of the table Old Court. Second in the league Perfection won 6-1 at Longbridge, but they have played one game more than the leaders. After the top two there are five teams all on eight points, Dingle, Bournville, Bournbrook, Cock Inn and Stirchley, Bournville and Bournbrook have both played five games, the other three having played six.
Just the two maximums this week and they came from K.Shaw (Longbridge) and J.Moore (Perfection).

The top three teams in division one of the South West Birmingham Clubs League hold on to their positions this week, Stirchley United having a 5-2 win at Bournbrook to keep them in the number one spot with a narrow one leg of average lead on second placed Northfield Darts Club after they won by the same 5-2 margin at home against West Heath CEM. Third in the division Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club, once again won 5-2 away to Perfection leaving them four points adrift of the top two teams as are fourth placed Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’, who made it four 5-2 wins in the division this week when they won their home fixture with Quarry Lane Club, they now have a game in hand on all three teams above them.
In division two E57 won 5-2 at Longbridge Arrows to hold on to pole position with twenty points, two more than second and third placed Northfield Conservative Club ‘A’ and Kings Norton Arrows who in turn won 5-2 Cue Club and 4-3 at home over Longbridge Warriors.
In the pre-match doubles league in division one, Northfield Darts Club top the table with 142 points, ten more than second placed Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club while in the division two pre-match doubles it’s E57 who lead the field with 121 points with Kings Norton Arrows second on 107 points.

With two more games to play and a 3-0 win over Adam Rogers, Matthew Cain has won the title in the Heartlands Sugardarts M&E Co Double Top League. Matthew Cain has amassed a total of 155 points from his sixty games played and has a lead of fourteen points over second placed Martin Cooper who in the latest round of fixtures beat Gemma Whatley 3-0 and Andrew Richmond 2-1 to give him in turn a fourteen points advantage over third in the league Steve Cain, both players having three more games to play. John Burdett notched the one and only maxuimum of the night in his 2-1 win against Ellis Gundy.

For the first time in twenty-four games, Old Liberal Club lost in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League. It could be a very telling defeat for Old Liberal Club as their victors and hosts were Gornal British Legion who are second in the league and have now drawn level on forty-six points with their opponents and are just trailing them on average. Third placed Cross had a resounding 7-0 away win over Queens Head to put them on forty points, six short of the two teams above them with a game in hand. Fourth and fifth placed Five Ways and Bird in Hand are also on forty points but have played twenty-four games, Five Ways had a close 4-3 win at Samson and Lion while Bird in Hand won by the same 4-3 scoreline at High Acres.

Leaders High Acres ‘A’ suffered their first defeat in fourteen games in the Silver End Sunday Morning League, and what a defeat it was, going down 8-0 away to Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘B’ who are second in the table and have now reduced the arrears on their opponents to just one point. Third in the league Old Star ‘A’ had a bye this week and with two games in hand on the leaders and one in hand on the Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘B’ they have thirty-one points, six off the top and five off second place. At the other end of the table Red Cow lost 7-1 at Tenth Lock, their thirteenth straight defeat, they are the only team in the league without a win so far.

Raven strengthened their position at the top of the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League table when they handed out a 7-0 whitewash to their visitors Bird in Hand ‘E’, second placed Chop House had a closer 4-3 win playing away against Stourbridge FC Youth, and from the same twelve games have two points fewer than Raven. Third, fourth and fifth placed Stourbridge FC ‘A’ , Old Liberal Club ‘A’ and Ashwood are also on eighteen points and have played eleven games, in the most recent fixtures, Stourbridge FC ‘A’ won 7-0 in the local derby with Stourbridge FC ‘B’, Old Liberal Club ‘A’ won 4-3 at Fox Inn (Lye) and Ashwood won by the same 4-3 result at home against Railway Inn.

It’s as-you-were in the Black Country Ladies Team Super League, leaders, Allen’s Bar ‘B’ winning 4-1 against bottom placed Allen’s Bar ‘D’ and second placed Allen’s Bar ‘A’ winning by the same 4-1 score against Allen’s ‘C’. Allen’s ‘B’ are on thirty-four points, Allen’s ‘A’ on twenty-seven, Allen’s ‘C’ have twenty points and Allen’s ‘D’ seven.

The latest round of results in the West Midlands Men’s Super League saw no change in the league table whatsoever, Staffordshire Knot holding on to pole position with 165 points after their 4-1 home win over Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’. Kings Head are second, their 138 points twenty-seven fewer than the leaders and with only one game in hand. Third placed Dog and Partridge also have 138 ponts from the same thirty-two fixtures as Kings Head and they both have a twenty-one points lead on fourth placed Junction ‘A’ plus a game in hand.

The John Edwards Thursday Night League played off the final of their 301 Cup, and taking the honours were Bostin Darts ‘B’ who won the final against Blackheath Liberal Club 5-4.
There were also a couple of rearranged league fixtures played which saw leaders Whiteheath Tavern win 8-1 at home against Red Cow and Ivy Bush beat Club 99 5-4. Neither of the results had any effect on the league table.

The Rowley Monday Night League played off the finals of their divisinal doubles knockouts and winning the division one title were Bell representatives T.Brennan (160b) and B.Gillies who defeated the Romsley Cricket Club duo T.Dore and A.Bennett.
The division two title went to J.Moore and K.Williams from Double Tops Micro Bar, the runners-up being the Vine pairing of M.Preedy and R.Bishop.

On the agenda for the Amblecote RBL Premier League was their Grand Prix Knockout and making their exits in the quarter-finals were, Joe Poole, Craig Slater, Dave Edwards and Tom Hanson. In the last four games, the fixture bewteen Andy Vellender and Paul Wells went the full seven legs distance with Wells just getting the 4-3 verdict. That was not the case for Nick Fullweel in his game with Caden Marsh as he handed Marsh a straight 4-0 defeat. Fullwell was in form once again in the final beating Wells 4-1.

With a 6-2 win over Richard Brown in the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League, Scott Baker made it twenty-two wins from twenty-three games which keeps him top of the division one table with 197 points. Second placed Simon Pritchard won 7-1 against Carl Zambra to put him on 193 points and although only four behind Baker, he has played twenty-eight games, five more than the leader. Third placed Chris Manoila has a game in hand on Pritchard but his 183 points are ten fewer, than his rival.
Leading the way in division two is Wayne Barratt his 7-1 win over Kobi Holyhead taking his points tally to 229 from twenty-nine games, his nearest rival is Neville Quinton who won his fixture against Miller Ford 8-0 to move to within nine points of Barratt but he has played one game more than Barratt.

From the twenty-two starters, and after only the third week in the singles league of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League, just six teams have maintained a 100% win record. Junction ‘B’ and New Gate Inn share the number one spot, level on points and average after Junction ‘B’ won their most recent fixture 5-3 at home over Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’ and New Gate Inn had a decisive 7-0 home win against Castle. Dog and Partridge and Gilbert’s Bar ‘B’ share third place, the former winning 6-1 in their home tie with Triangle and the latter, who also had a home fixture, won by the same 6-1 margin over Red Lion ‘A’. Fifth placed Ashmore, are three legs of average off the top, they won 5-2 at Navigation Inn, and making up the top six is Red Lion ‘B’ who are a further two legs of average short after they had a narrow 4-3 home win over Bradmore Arms.
Five teams remain unbeaten in the doubles league, and once again there are two teams sharing pole position. A 2-1 win over Triangle puts Dog and Partridge top of the table with Junction ‘B’ after they won 2-1 against Gilbert’s Bar ‘A’. Just one leg of average behind the leading duo come Angel whose 2-1 win over Junction ‘D’ gives them a single leg lead over both Garden Bar and Red Lion ‘B’, Garden Bar having a 2-1 win over Junction ‘C’ and Red Lion ‘B’ winning, yet again 2-1, against Bradmore Arms.
