The former WDF Youth World Champion has been the in-form player of the draw. Self averaged 100.20 in a 4-0 win over Lewis Gurney to reach the Last 16, then followed it with a 102.25 average in a 4-1 win over fellow youngster, Kaya Baysal. Ben Townley was beaten 4-2 in the quarter-finals, before Harry Lane fell 4-1 in the final four.
It hasn’t all been smooth. He needed a deciding leg to edge Jayden Walker 4-3 in the Last 64. Walker had beaten Smith the previous day 4-1 in the England International Open quarter-finals.
Francis has taken the harder road. He defied a 100-plus average from Steve West to win 402 in the Last 64 (93.14 to 100.63), and he has needed deciding legs three times on his way to the final, edging Bradley Kirk in the Last 32, then Chas Barstow in the quarter-finals despite Barstow’s higher average. He saved his best for the semi-finals. With a 98 average in a 4-2 win over Dan Hands.
England Masters Ladies Darts: Hedman vs Hyde
In the Ladies final, England’s Deta Hedman faces Scotland’s Lorraine Hyde (above).
Hedman has been all but untouchable, conceding just two legs across the whole event. She whitewashed Gail Williams, Erdenechimeg Dondov (88.41 average), Lisa Withers and Olivia Heaton before seeing off England International Open finalists Anca Zjilstra 4-2 in the semi-finals.
