Scott Marsh, the reigning British Open Champion, took to Facebook recently to confirm that he had turned down the opportunity to represent his country for forthcoming Internationals:
Marsh, also the ADC (MAD) English National titleholder, announced:
“Had the call-up today to play for England! I’d like to thank Peter Melton and the England Darts Group for the invitation, but with my busy schedule this year I will be declining the offer. “
In a peculiar addition, Marsh seemed to declare that International darts are not competitive. In what may have been a misworded line Scott continued:
“This year I will be concentrating on my competitive darts only” before moving on to thank his supporters and sponsors etc.
It is not the first decisive action, in recent months, from the 39-year-old. Following what could be described as a breakthrough year (predicted in Darts World) he left both his management team and his dart manufacturer before an expected Lakeside appearance.
However, a disappointing Q School and mediocre Challenge Tour Weekend should serve as a reminder that form and fortune fluctuate and, perhaps, such opportunity should not be taken lightly.
