NORTH AMERICAN darts will surely continue its rapid rise in quality and influence since the establishment of the Championship Darts Corporation under the auspices of Peter Citera. An extension of their arrangements with the PDC has just been announced:
The Professional Darts Corporation is pleased to announce a three-year extension to its partnership with the Championship Darts Corporation, the leading darts organisation in North America.
The extension will see the CDC continue to be recognised as the PDC’s Global Affiliate Tour in the United States and Canada.
Founded in 2015, the CDC is the continent’s only professional steel-tip tour, providing a structured series of tournaments throughout the year and a route for players to compete in PDC televised events.
The CDC continues to increase visibility of darts and engage new audiences across the continent in North America, while the standard of play has made great strides over the last eight years and seen stars including Danny Baggish and Matt Campbell progress onto the PDC circuit.
The CDC will continue to provide qualification places for the World Darts Championship, as well as other PDC televised events, including the Grand Slam of Darts and World Cup of Darts.
Three North American players – Campbell, Jeff Smith and Jules van Dongen – are currently competing on the PDC circuit as Tour Card Holders, while Baggish, Leonard Gates and David Cameron competed in the 2022/23 World Championship.
The CDC also provides opportunities for young players, through the Evolution (age 10-23) and Junior (age 10-17) Tours, with qualification places available in the PDC Winmau World Youth Championship, as well as the Junior Darts Corporation’s World Cup and Junior World Championship.
“We’re pleased to extend our commitment to the CDC with this new multi-year arrangement,” said PDC Chief Executive Matthew Porter.
“The growth curve of professional steel-tip darts in North America over recent years has been steep and we look forward to watching that trend continue.
“With qualification places for some of our Premier events and the fantastic spectacle of the US Masters at Madison Square Garden on offer, the CDC is the place to be for serious US and Canadian players.”
The 2023 CDC campaign will get underway with the inaugural Cross-Border Darts Challenge, a new fan-focused event which sees eight Canadian and eight American stars face off against each other at the White Eagle Hall in Jersey City on April 21-22 (tickets available at champdarts.com).
Darts fans will also have the opportunity to see the PDC’s top stars take on North America’s best in New York as the Theater at Madison Square Garden again plays host to the US Darts Masters and North American Darts Championship on June 2-3 (tickets available through ticketmaster.com).
As in previous years, the winner of the North American Championship will also receive a berth in the World Darts Championship.
Players will have the opportunity to compete for a minimum of three available spots in the US Darts Masters via a qualifying event staged by CDC in Indianapolis in May.
The 2023 Championship Darts Circuit tour will consist of 12 events staged over four weekends, culminating with the top 16 players on the Tour competing in the Continental Cup Four Finals Championship in October. In addition, a CDC Summer Series has been announced for 2023, with five standalone non-ranked events to be staged around other darting weekends in America this year.

It should also be noted that the improvement in both standard and depth has ensured that US and Canadian representatives have achieved success in the WDF, Seniors Darts and the MODUS Super Series.
