World Championship finalists, recent tour card holders are battling 2024 form horses, newcomers and grizzled veterans from across the globe for a place in Saturdays champions Week play offs.
Scott Taylor and Tom Sykes took the early lead on Thursday in ending Day One of their respective groups, top, as they look to join Andreas Harrysson in Saturday’s Champions Week finale at the Modus Super Series.
Taylor, who entered Champions Week having won Week Eight back in October, made his return by taking the early lead in Group C, after winning four of his five matches, as he recorded victories against Derek Coulson, Andy Boulton, Paul Hogan and Romeo Grbavac, with his only defeat coming against Jim Long, to sit on 8 points from a possible 10 thus far.
Elsewhere, Derek Coulson also ended the day on 8 points, but sits in 2nd behind Taylor due to leg difference, whilst Romeo Grbavac sits in 3rd on 6 points, Jim Long in 4th on 4 points, with Paul Hogan and Andy Boulton sitting 5th and 6th respectively on 2 points each.
In Group B, Tom Sykes took the early lead, after winning three of his four matches, as he recorded victories against David Davies, Darius Labanauskas and Andy Hamilton, with his only defeat coming against Kai Gotthardt, to sit on 6 points from a possible 8 thus far.
Elsewhere, three players in Darius Labanauskas, Kai Gotthardt and David Davies ended the evening 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively on 4 points each, whilst Andy Hamilton sits bottom on 2 points.
The Modus Super Series continues on Friday with players continuing to battle out as they aim to join Andreas Harrysson in Saturday’s Champions Week finale, with Taylor and Sykes taking the early lead thus far. Group C will commence from 1pm GMT and Group B will commence from 10pm GMT. Play will be streamed live on The Modus YouTube channel or via various bookmaker’ websites worldwide.
