Concierge Tour's Andalusian Adventure Produces Trio of Darts Winners

The picturesque region of Andalusia provided the backdrop for the latest Concierge UK Senior Darts Tour, with plenty escaping the cruel British weather in search of a few sun-soaked days in southern Spain.

Founded around 770 BC, Malaga welcomed a strong field of players who, while not quite needing to date back that far, were all aged 50 and over to qualify for competition.

Thursday proved to be the largest of the three events in terms of numbers, with 22 players in attendance. Following the round-robin stage, the format shifted to a straight knockout, leaving eight arrow-smiths battling it out for the title.

In the end, it was Andrew Daniell who claimed the honours in the weekend’s opener, doing so in dramatic fashion. From the quarter-finals onwards, the Cornishman edged every match. After pipping Nick Turner and Mike Norton, Daniell held his nerve in another last-leg decider to overcome Martin Haines in the final and draw first blood for the Padstow thrower.

Friday saw the field reduced slightly, but the competition remained as fierce as ever. Once the early rounds were completed, it was Mike Norton who bounced back from his quarter-final exit the previous day to claim first prize. The Weston-Super-Mare man cruised past Lee Burlton without dropping a leg, overcame Darren Gale, and then edged a tight final to deny Aldershot’s Mark Wheeler.

The final event of the weekend on Saturday featured 15 players chasing glory and ultimately went the way of serial Concierge winner James Richardson. Much like Daniell on Thursday, Richardson secured hard-fought victories in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals, seeing off Darren Gale and indeed Daniell himself respectively, before once again leaving Mark Wheeler as runner-up to round off another successful and enjoyable few days of high-quality tungsten action.
