England and Scotland Divide Six Nations Spoils

Diamond Draws Competitions

Darts’ Six Nations Cup once again provided a compelling demonstration of the enduring strength of England’s women, while Scotland’s men secured a long-awaited triumph, bringing to an end a title drought which had persisted since 2003.

Hosted at the North Devon Resort, the annual gathering attracted many of the foremost exponents of amateur darts. Alongside the international team competitions, the event also featured individual championships, where two particularly familiar names once again occupied centre stage.

Deta Hedman OBE (below) added yet another accolade to her extraordinary collection by claiming the women’s title, while Scotland’s Mitchell Lawrie emerged victorious in the men’s event. Despite the considerable disparity in age between the pair, both continue to exhibit an exceptional degree of consistency and competitive distinction.

In the Ladies Nations Cup, the six competing countries were divided into two groups before the leading nations progressed to the knockout phase. Following the elimination of the Netherlands and Northern Ireland, Wales comfortably overcame the Republic of Ireland, while England’s trio of Hedman, Laura Turner and Paige Pauling produced a commanding display against Scotland.

The final brought together England and Wales. After a promising opening by England, the Welsh pairing of Eve Watson and Rhian O’Sullivan briefly assumed control. However, Laura Turner produced two vital legs to restore England’s advantage before Hedman delivered the decisive contribution to secure the championship.

Success further enhanced the remarkable record established by Hedman and England Ladies manager Paul, whose association continues to yield silverware with striking regularity.

Scotland Darts Triumph After 23 Year Drought

Attention then shifted to the men’s tournament. Wales ended England’s hopes with an emphatic 13-6 semi-final victory, while Scotland defeated the Netherlands by a 13-7 margin, with contributions spread evenly throughout the side.

Consequently, Wales and Scotland contested the final. Although the Welsh reduced the deficit to 8-6 after an encouraging spell, Scotland responded magnificently, capturing five consecutive legs to complete a convincing 13-6 success. Appropriately, it was Mitchell Lawrie who converted the winning double and sealed a memorable victory for the Tartan side.
