Lewis Pride continued his fine recent form, as he clinched a place at this weeks’ Finals Night in Portsmouth by Winning Group A of Week 11 at the MODUS Super Series.
Yorkshireman Pride has been performing well on the PDC Winmau Challenge Tour, and has also picked up an ADC Winmau Championship North title, as well as appearing on the PDC Pro Tour, and he carried on that fine run here, emerging the group winner by two points.
A chaotic day one saw a three-way tie for leadership, with Pride’s 4-2 win against Scott Taylor in the final match of the day ensuring he ended on eight points which was good enough for third place, behind Taylor and Carl Wilson, who lead the pack by virtue of legs difference.
It was a tough opening day for former ADC Global Champion Devon Petersen, who was winless across his first five matches, while Adrian Gray picked up one win, and Meinte Hibna scored a couple of successes to stay in touch.
Day two is always classed as ‘moving day’ in Group A, and it was Pride and Taylor that made their moves with four wins apiece to go four points clear of Wilson in third place.
Petersen managed to seal his first two wins of the campaign, as he went level on points with Adrian Gray, while Hibna was on eight points, and also out of the race for qualification.
It all came down to the last day of play, and the final round of matches, where Pride needed just one leg to advance in his crunch clash with Taylor, with Taylor needing an improbable 4-0 victory in order for him to make Saturday directly.
It would prove to be a 4-3 win for Pride in the end, as he punched his ticket to the showpiece, while Taylor trailed him by four points in the final standings.
Carl Wilson sealed a third-placed finish, four points ahead of Meinte Hibna, while Adrian Gray finished on ten points, six ahead of Devon Petersen, who endured another winless day.
The action continues on Thursday, with Groups B and C getting underway.
