Gary Anderson produced a sparkling performance to defeat Krzysztof Ratajski 6-2 at the Hungarian Darts Trophy, while defending champion Niko Springer’s title challenge came to an end against Ryan Searle on Day Two in Budapest.
The Flying Scotsman averaged over 105 in a dominant display against the Pole, underlining his class as he progressed to the last 16 at the MVM Dome.
Springer’s hopes of retaining the crown he won last year were dashed by Searle, who claimed a 6-4 victory to send the German packing.
Chris Dobey staged a fine comeback, recovering from 4-0 down to edge out Tom Sykes 6-5 in a tight contest.Ross Smith and Dave Chisnall both posted ton-plus averages in comfortable victories.
Smith defeated William O’Connor 6-2, while Chisnall saw off Wessel Nijman by the same scoreline.
Elsewhere in the afternoon session, Jermaine Wattimena progressed with a 6-4 win over Andrew Gilding, Danny Noppert beat Ritchie Edhouse 6-4, and Rob Cross edged a high-quality battle against Luke Woodhouse 6-5.
Attention now turns to the evening session, where the remaining second-round ties will complete the last-16 line-up.
