The sensational talent that is Jayden Walker has won a place in the England Men’s team for the British Internationals, 6 Nations Cup, and World Cup, as he came through the qualifying event in Bridlington this afternoon.
The 14-year-old was in fine form at The Spa, and after taking a 2-1 win in sets against Mark Stephenson, ‘The Young Gun’ took whitewash wins over Cayden Smith, Paul Lewis and Vince Tipple to make the final, where a 2-1 win was enough to secure his England jersey at the expense of Jack Nankervis.
We caught up with Jayden shortly after his superb victory.
“I’m absolutely over the moon to be part of the England Men’s team” said Walker.
“I came in just expecting some practice for the weekend, but to win it is amazing. I’m looking forward to representing England in the future”.
“I’ve been excited about playing all day, and I tried not to take it too seriously because it’s a men’s event and not a youth one, and to beat Cayden Smith with a 95 average gave me a lot of confidence as he’s one of the best youth players in the world right now”.
“I’m privileged to be representing my country at men’s level, and it’s probably my proudest achievement in darts. Hopefully I can build from that”.
“I’m honoured to be following in the footsteps of so many great players to have played for England”.
“My aim for the rest of the weekend is to pick up some more ranking points in both men’s and youth events. If I win an event, then that’s great, but if not, I pick up valuable points”.
Walker still has a whole host of events to look forward to over the weekend, with the WDF British Open and British Classic forming the main events of the weekend.
