Derek Coulson was victorious on Saturday as he was crowned the winner of Week Six at MODUS Super Series darts, after defeating Jamai Van den Herik in the final to secure a place in Champions Week and claim the weekly £5,000 top prize.
Despite the jokes of the Super Series team, with Coulson seeming to win at every attempt recently, the weeks action was anything but boring. Yes, the 58-year-old won his seventh weekly title but some other interesting narratives were only just under the surface.
Coulson, who entered the finale having won Group A earlier in the week, began the night by winning both of his group phase matches, as he defeated Kevin Burness and Ram Guevara Jr to progress through to the Semi Finals, where he came up against James Hubbard and from there, Coulson defeated the Englishman, 4-1, to book his place in the final.
Although Hubbard departed at this stage he can look back on his weeks work as step in the right direction. The Former World Youth Champion has been through some very lean years and it seemed as though he may never play at the higher levels again. Yet, he started well, leading Group A, recovered after being overtaken and secured his finale spot in a later group.
Hubbard battled hard on finals night and again recovered after an early loss to Jamai Van den Herik and can count himself unlucky to also have to deal with a rampant Coulson.

In the decider, Coulson came up against Jamai, who’d defeated Kevin Edwards in the last four, and in a battle between experience and youth, it was the experience of Coulson that got the better of his Dutch opponent, as the Welshman sealed his place in Champions Week with a 4-2 victory as he looks to defend his title he won in Series 14.
The young Dutchman made huge progress this week and can certainly hold his head up. He showed what many have believed for some time, there is real talent there and it is beginning to come to fruition.
A final note on David Munyua. After gaining such popularity, via his fabulous efforts at Ally Pally (pictured above), the Kenyan had struggled to really show his ability in subsequent appearances. This time he put that to bed. He played superbly in patches and won more than his fair share of game. A semi final place together with more exposure and experience was thoroughly earned.
The MODUS Super Series returns on Monday with the start of Week Seven, with the first of three days of Group A commencing, with the field including the likes of Richie Howson, Benito Van de Pas and David Evans. Will more such intriguing stories and narratives appear once again?
