Antwerp Expo is about to become the last meaningful staging post before the World Grand Prix field is sealed, and the draw for the Blåkläder Flanders Darts Trophy has handed Friday night a genuine main event. Beau Greaves against Damon Heta is the pairing that will pull the room in first.
It is European Tour event 13 of 15, 11–13 September, and the timing is unforgiving. Ranking points here still move the needle for Leicester and for European Championship qualification. That is why a first-round match can feel bigger than the round it sits in. Greaves arrives as the story of the month.
In Budapest she became the first woman to play a European Tour match and took Rob Cross to a deciding leg. In Prague she went one better, beating Daryl Gurney 6-4 to become the first woman to win on the circuit, before Luke Humphries stopped her in round two. That run has changed the temperature around her. She is no longer a curiosity in these fields. She is a problem.

Heta is the opposite kind of problem. The Australian number one has enjoyed these stages for years: heavy scoring, stubborn doubles, and the ability to turn a noisy Friday into a Saturday night. He does not need the narrative. He just needs the darts. Put that against Greaves’ fearlessness and finishing and you have a match that should not need selling. The prize for winning it is immediate and brutal. Michael van Gerwen is waiting in Saturday’s evening session.
The rest of Friday’s sessions are not filler. Sebastian Bialecki and Kim Huybrechts meet in a game that could still matter for World Grand Prix places. Cristo Reyes, another name hovering around the cut, opens against Cross.
Raymond van Barneveld is back on the European Tour against Jim Long. Dirk van Duijvenbode faces Brendan Dolan, Kevin Doets plays James Hurrell, and Cameron Menzies goes in against Gabriel Clemens.
Sixteen first-round matches across a double session, with the host-nation places finalised on Thursday. Saturday is when the seeded names arrive. Gian van Veen, top seed, meets Menzies or Clemens. James Wade, still looking to lock European Championship qualification, plays the winner of Van Barneveld or Long. Gerwyn Price opens against Mickey Mansell or Bradley Brooks. Stephen Bunting gets Van Duijvenbode or Dolan.
Wessel Nijman, already a two-time European Tour winner this year, waits for Bialecki or Huybrechts. Nathan Aspinall is lined up for a possible meeting with Niko Springer. Martin Schindler, whose Grand Prix hopes are hanging by a thread, faces Cross or Reyes.
Luke Littler is absent after his Prague title. Huybrechts’ presence on home soil fills some of that space, and the Expo crowd will not need much encouragement.
Sunday follows the familiar European Tour shape: last 16 in the afternoon, then quarters, semis and final in one evening session.
