Twenty-eight years on, and the Europe Cup Open Pairs title returns to Wales.
Llew Bevan hit double 16 to seal a 6-4 victory for him and David Davies over Finland’s Teemu Harju and Jonas Masalin, making Wales three-time champions in the event. Their previous wins came in 1994 and 1998, and both had Martin Phillips in the pairing.
It is a nice bounce back for the Welsh, who were knocked out of the Teams event by Ireland in the Last 16 after a 9-7 defeat.
They were the quicker pair here, racing into a 2-0 lead before Harju and Masalin levelled with a 13-dart leg. But the Finns never led during the contest. From 2-2, Wales won three of the next four legs and went 5-3 clear and when Finland pulled it back to 5-4, Bevan and Davies shut the door in 14 darts.

Wales averaged 87.85 to Finland’s 80.62 over the 26-minute final, and adds another victory for the Dragon, after they took home World Cup teams glory last year.
Finland, who had already guaranteed themselves a medal in the event, take Silver.
Bronze goes to the English pair of Jenson Walker and Lloyd Pennell, as well as Wales’ other due, Liam Meek and Mark Challenger.
