The Target Junior Darts Series gives rising players the platform to prove their talent. With five elite events culminating in a high-stakes finals event, with £750 on offer to the winner.
‘Wee Sox’ Lawrie won four of his five group games to begin his day at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham, with a 107.36 average the highlight in his 2-0 win against Reece Holden, and his sole defeat coming against Zach Strong as he comfortably made the knockout phase.
After a 3-2 win against Lee Bradshaw in the last 64, Lawrie then posted a sublime 104.86 average to dismiss Jude Clarke 3-0, and he then whitewashed Lennon Wharf to make the quarter finals.
From there, the teenager had to work hard, as he edged a 4-3 win against Daniel Halliday, before making the final with another final-leg win, a 102.12 average clinching a 5-4 win over 14-year-old Jayden Walker, who averaged 102 himself in defeat.
Greensmith had also come through his group with four wins from five, and he made serene progress to the final, dropping just one leg in wins against Adam Fulcher, Nathan Ward-Wilkinson and Linkoln Starling, and a 4-1 win against Japan’s Taiga Ajiki saw him into the semi-finals.
There, a near-88 average ensured Greensmith’s place in the final at the expense of Kyle Gilding, who played in this years’ PDC UK Open, but he was no match for Greensmith, who took a 5-1 win to take his place alongside Lawrie for the first prize.
A pair of 19-dart legs put Lawrie 2-0 ahead, but Greensmith would eventually get on terms at 3-3.
That was as good as it got though, as Lawrie moved ahead, and a 119 finish put him a leg away from glory, which he duly delivered in 13 darts.
