Group A came to its conclusion at MODUS Super Series, and Archie Self took the direct route to Finals Night by taking top spot by the barest of margins.
Day one had belonged to Jack Aldridge, who wired double 12 for a nine-darter, but would end with a perfect five wins, handing Self his sole defeat of the opening day’s play.

Self rebounded though, and ended moving day at the summit, but on legs difference only, with third-placed Graham Usher waiting in the wings two points back.
In the end, it proved to be a 160 checkout that would end Aldridge’s hopes on the final day, as Usher took a 4-2 win that gave Self an unassailable lead, with his leg difference too superior for Aldridge to be able to catch the 16-year-old. Aldridge would sign off with a 4-1 win against Stuart Dutton, while Self fell to defeat in his final match against Ricardo Ulrich, who would end the campaign in fifth position, two points behind Dutton in the final placings.
It was a group to forget though for South Africa’s Grant Sampson, as he lost all 15 matches to fall into Group C, alongside Dutton and Ulrich. They will be joined by Joe Hunt, Robbie Martin and David O’Hara.
Aldridge and Usher will go into Group B, that will contain Nathan Potter, Graham Hall and Tommy Lishman.
The action gets underway from Thursday afternoon.
